"Forthcoming Attractions" blog post banner

selection of vintage items soon to be available from H is for Home including Briglin Pottery coffee pot, Cathrineholm coffee pot, orange enamel coffee pot, vintage Vera pillow cases, 4 Chance Glass pin dishes, pair of green enamel candleholders, Robert Welch for Old Hall stainless steel mustard pot & spoon, set of 6 Wostenholm stainless steel dessert spoons, Smiths desktop thermometer and pair of Italian Ceramica Di Milano handpainted lidded pots decorated with female figures

Here are some forthcoming attractions for mid September… photos taken on a rare, sunny afternoon by recent standards.

selection of vintage items soon to be available from H is for Home including Briglin Pottery coffee pot, Cathrineholm coffee pot and orange enamel coffee pot

We start with a trio of coffee pots. At the back is a tall coffee pot produced by Briglin Pottery in the 1960s – in our favourite wax resist sunflower design. To the foreground are two enamel pots – the orange one (dating from the 1960s/70s) has no maker’s marks, but is a fabulous colour & shape. The green & white pot is by Cathrineholm of Norway – from the much in demand ‘Lotus’ range designed by Grete Prytz Kittelsen in the 1950s.

Moving onto some Mid Century Modern stainless steel. First we have the little mustard pot still with its original spoon. This was designed by Robert Welch for Old Hall.  The set of tea/dessert spoons was produced by Wostenholm of Sheffield – we love their big moon shaped bowls.

Bedroom items next – some unused 1970s patterned pillowcases in shades of orange and two green vintage enamel candle holders.

set of 4 vintage Chance Glass pin dishes

This set of snack dishes was made by Chance Glass – pieces with this psychedelic swirl design are steadily getting more sought after.

We think these two lidded pots might just be our favourites in the whole collection.  They’re Italian, hand painted and date from the 1950s. A pair of domestic goddesses!!

vintage Smiths desktop thermometer

And last but not least, we have this rather nice desk thermometer produced by Smiths in the 1950s or 60s. We fear its needle is about to plummet!

We’ve had this London blog on the back burner for some time – London-related designs in books, ceramics and fabric.

vintage 1960s Beefeater tile designed by Kenneth Townsend

It was in featuring Kenneth Townsend tiles in our last post that brought it back to mind. We focused on his ‘Menagerie’ series of tiles in that blog, but did briefly mention his ‘London’ series.

This Beefeater and city gent are two more great examples from this latter series.

He also did London landmark designs for Chance Glass during the same era.

Carltonware Pottery produced a series of moneyboxes – also from the 1960s – their Coldstream Guard and this Bobby on the beat are also at home in a London blog.

detail of cover of vintage book entitled "A View of London" by Edward Pagram showing a Beefeater and a raven

We picked up this copy of A View of London by Edward Pagram in our local book shop. The cover was calling out to us from the window display – when we saw all the sketches inside, it sealed the deal! This is just a small selection:

Another must-have book for the vintage London-ophile is This is London by Miroslav Sasek. His illustrations are truly stunning!

We found this sweet felt picture on Todmorden flea market recently.

We’re particularly fond of this row of Beefeaters in front of Tower Bridge.

And what do you think about this fantastic vintage tea towel of Oxford Street and its famous Christmas lights…

London design tea tray designed by Maria Holmer Dahlgren

There’s some pretty tacky stuff on your average souvenir stall – but there are some fabulous designs being produced as well. This colourful London tea tray designed by Maria Holmer Dahlgren is one such piece which is on our wish list. The tray’s available from the Visit London online shop.

ceramic mug illustrated with the Trooping of the Colour designed by Aldo Cosomati

Or how about this mug from the London Transport Museum online shop? It’s taken from an original  poster designed by Aldo Cosomati in the 1920s.

There’s some really good stuff in both shops – well worth a look!
