Our new shop space

Shopfront of our new shop space | H is for Home

In a recent blog post about a Blomus tea set, we mentioned our new shop space.

Well, here it is! It’s an attractive corner plot directly opposite the antiques centre from where we currently sell. This was a good opportunity to spread things out a bit. We’re sharing the shop with a couple of other dealers.

Our space has got a lovely, big display window.

…and a neglected window box which had potential to look very pretty.

So, what to do next!  Mmmm… let’s mull this over.

We moved into the space over a couple of days. We wanted to combine our twin loves of mid century modern and rustic country styles.

And here are the results. We hope it looks like the kind of shop in which you’d like to browse. If you ever get the chance to visit, we’re right next to the library in Todmorden – at the junction of Hall Street and Rochdale Road. Picturehouse Antiques, where we also sell from, is directly across the road – and there are loads of good places to get coffee and cake close by!

Justin took lots of snaps which we’ve included below to give you a good feel of the new place. We hope to see you there one day!

Forthcoming Attractions: Late January 2014

In addition to our web shop, we also sell items from the antiques centre in Todmorden.

We tend to keep the web shop items separate from the antiques centre items to avoid confusion when things are sold.

This does of course mean that lots of lovely pieces don’t even see our website, so we thought we’d share a few photos of how our bricks & mortar space is looking at the moment.

We like to fill our pitch with a good mix of items; they mainly fall under three broad categories – namely country vintage, vintage retro and vintage industrial.

Our country vintage includes two kitchenettes at the moment – and this fabulous 19th century butchers table/block. Also various baskets, stools, storage racks, pans, tins & jars.

The term ‘vintage retro’ is now well-adopted even though, strictly speaking, ‘retro’ means recently produced items that have the flavour or style of past eras. We do tend to concentrate on genuine vintage. At the moment, these include small pieces of teak, beech & chrome furniture, fabric, bits of fashion like handbags, hats & ties, mid century pottery & glass, tableware, artwork including posters – and loads of great lamps!

The vintage industrial department (well corner!) includes filing cabinets, crates, boxes, drawers & wire racks. Some of those many lamps also probably sit comfortably in this section.

Items come & go of course, but these pictures were all taken on Monday 20th January.

We’ve had lots of these 1960s rocket lamps over the years… usually orange or cream.

full shelf of H is for Home items for sale

It’s been a bit quiet on the H is for Home blog front recently. We’ve been keeping very busy with a new little venture.

preparation items for the new H is for Home cabinet at the Picture House Antiques centre

H is for Home labels

We were offered a space in our local Picture House Antiques centre, which we’ve already mentioned in our Todmorden blog, and thought it would be nice to have an actual physical presence in our home town.

It’s a large cabinet which we’ve given the H is for Home treatment. We’ve painted its backboard a lovely, vibrant green…

…and have begun to fill it with a mixture of antiques, vintage and retro pieces… a taste of things that can be found on the webshop.

It’s taken a bit longer than anticipated to get to this stage as the whole project started with a bit of a disaster!

We’d arranged about 25 gorgeous glass vases on the top shelf… you know what’s coming next… yes, the shelf collapsed, and the vases came crashing down smashing themselves and other items beneath. There’s no photographic evidence – in all the turmoil, taking photos didn’t cross our minds.

It took a few hours before we could face it again… but we eventually returned and have it looking quite nice again. We’ll no doubt be adding & rearranging aplenty over the coming days!
