rolled up vintage Sunday Express poster

We bought these two posters last week…

… they’re news stand posters dating from the 1960s – and quite rare survivors.

Most would be thrown away and replaced the following day without a thought… but someone decided to take these home.

We’re accumulating lots of vintage posters at the moment.

They’re perfect for filling the walls in our antiques centre pitch.

Framing is quite expensive (particularly when the item is about 6 feet tall as in the case of this Rollerball poster!)

It’s well worth it for the end result.

We’re trying to be strict with ourselves, but the odd one or two have sneaked onto our walls at home – for a while at least!

The majority will be on display and available to buy from Picture House Antiques in Todmorden.

If any of them really take your fancy, we could look into getting them delivered.

We’re adding to the collection all the time – we’ll try to show any new acquisitions on our Flickr pages.

detail of vintage contents of renovated 1960s wood & Formica kitchen cabinet

This kitchen cupboard / kitchenette has been this week’s little renovation project.

We collected it from a garage in Wakefield and set about giving it a bit of TLC.

First of all it got a good wash inside & out. The original red Formica was very faded and mottled, so we repainted it in a lovely vintage green. You can buy little tester pots or get colours specially matched at many local DIY shops.

We lined the shelves with a chintzy oil cloth that we bought online.

It’s now standing in our Picture House Antiques pitch waiting for someone to give it a new home -  in the meantime, it’s great for display.

multicoloured collection of vintage anglepoise lamps

This was an unusual buy at auction last week. A single lot, consisting of 21 vintage Anglepoise (and similar) lamps. We bought them untested – but amazingly all bar one worked perfectly!

We put some in our antiques centre pitch this morning….

…the others will be finding their way into the H is for Home shop in the coming weeks.

Perfect Pitch!

Perfect Pitch blog banner

We recently decided to upgrade our space in Picture House Antiques from a cabinet to a room-sized pitch. It will enable us to sell a much wider variety of items. It’s our usual mix of mid-century modern, handmade objects and rustic antiques.

There’s enamelware, ceramics, glass and fabrics… we’ve had some fantastic vintage posters framed for the walls… there are clocks, lighting and larger pieces of furniture.

It’s been quite a busy week – there are slideshows below charting the move.

BEFORE
(Items cluttering up our lounge, waiting to go)

DURING
(boxes to unpack, shelves to put up & pictures to hang)

AFTER
(More tweaking will surely be done, but we’re happy with the result so far)

Come pay us a visit if you’re ever in the area!

A cabinet post

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

It’s been a bit quiet on the H is for Home blog front recently. We’ve been keeping very busy with a new little venture.

We were offered a space in our local Picture House Antiques centre, which we’ve already mentioned in our Todmorden blog, and thought it would be nice to have a physical presence in our home town.

It’s a large cabinet which we’ve given the H is for Home treatment. We’ve painted its backboard a lovely, vibrant green…

…mounted some glossy photos and press cuttings…

…and have begun to fill it with a mixture of antiques, vintage and retro pieces… a taste of things that can be found on the website.

It’s taken a bit longer than anticipated to get to this stage as the whole project started with a bit of a disaster!

We’d arranged about 25 gorgeous glass vases on the top shelf… you know what’s coming next… yes, the shelf collapsed, and the vases came crashing down smashing themselves and other items beneath. There’s no photographic evidence – in the turmoil, taking photos didn’t cross our minds.

It took a few hours before we could face it again… but we eventually returned and have it looking quite nice again. We’ll no doubt be adding & rearranging aplenty over the coming days!

If you’re ever in the area pop in & have a look!
