Hey, it’s October – the new school year has begun, many universities get under way next week. And, yes, Christmas and the new year are just around the corner. Good thing we’ve been super efficient and already have our personalised 2018 H is for Home diary to hand!
We can’t take all the credit for being organised though; TOAD got in touch with us to collaborate on a review and give-away for our readers. TOAD®, which stands for TodayOrAnyDay, is giving someone the opportunity to design their very own personalised, customised, hand-made diary.
Need a diary that starts at the beginning of the school term? Want one that commences on the day you embark on a year-long trip around the world? What about a diary that begins on your birthday?
You can not only select the start date; you can choose the page layout, cover theme, colour & design, even the type of binding.
Even though I have a calender app on my laptop, nothing beats good old pen & paper. I find the act of writing something down genuinely helps me remember it! Call me old fashioned, I also think it’s often so much easier to retrieve information by quickly flipping through pages than tapping on an app.
With the help of a personalised TOAD® diary, you’ll have your life going according to plan in no time!
To enter this month’s competition, comment telling us what would be the first entry in your new diary. As usual, there are lots of extra ways to gain bonus entries. Best of luck!

Whether you need a little desk calendar just for your own work appointments or a jumbo wall calendar for all the family to jot down all their activities we’ve found some 2017 calendars for you!
We keep our calendar just inside our front door on a thin bit of wall above where we hang our keys. We tend to choose ones with flora or fauna illustrations by indie artists such as this one we had a few years ago by Gail Kelly.
We’re just off to order ourselves the Matt Sewell birds calendar – we already have some of his illustrated books – and this will be just the right fit for our narrow little space!
2015 is almost gone – just a fortnight’s worth of sand left in the timer. I don’t know about you, but with the proliferation of tech gadgets and apps around, I still like having the physicality of pen & paper to record certain things.
Every year, I carry over everyone’s birthdays from the previous year’s diary to the following year’s. I love to flip through the pages to remind myself of what I’d been up to during the prior 12 months. The work I had on, the deadlines that I had to meet, the weekends away, the people who came to visit…
I’ve been searching for a bright one for next year – orange being my favoured colour. Here’s what I came up with for 2016 diaries – budget, mid-range and deluxe.
- Panama collection orange 2016 Portobello diary in cross-grain lambskin: £180, Smythson
- ‘Colour a Month’ daily planner: £31.99, Moleskine
- Letts Two Tone A5 week to view diary: £9.49, Filofax
Welcome to 2015

2015 is only a couple of days away, have you got yourself a planner for the new year yet? Do you rely on a calendar, year planner, journal or diary? Whichever you’re after, you’ll find something to suit in this week’s Etsy List.
From a beautiful set of letterpress coasters (who doesn’t love a multi-purpose calendar that’s still going to be useful in 2016?) to font-tastic framed artworks; an upcycled classic children’s book to a personalised leather-bound journal. My favourite of the bunch has to be the miniature typewriter desk calendar, it’s instantly downloadable and a snip at less than a fiver!
We’ve a little slate hanging up in the kitchen where we’re supposed to write down our shopping lists and messages but it’s so small that it rarely gets used. One of these proper memo boards will stop us from both buying the milk!
We had a look at some of our usual internet haunts and came up with this short-list. We love the 2-metre tall blackboard from Graham and Green (#4) but alas, we won’t have the space for it. It should go without saying that #2 is our favourite! Firstly, it’s bright orange; 🙂 secondly, it’s a pegboard – something we’ve already said we want on a wall in our ‘soon to be set up’ home office.
- Week planner memo chalk board: £29.07, Wayfair
- Large pegboard, orange: £60, Notonthehighstreet
- Master of Boards® stainless steel magnetic memo board – Monaco – 35x50cm: £29.99, Amazon
- Chalkboard: £389, Graham and Green
- Vintage double sided silver clip display board – receipt keeper accounting system: £33.01, Etsy
