Modernising your kitchen with ease: Here's how

Modernising a kitchen is something that many people plan to do every now and again. After a few years, kitchens can feel a little dated. The good news is that they can be updated relatively easily. You don’t always have to spend a lot of time or money modernising your kitchen. This post shows how you can achieve it with ease.

Add new appliances

Sometimes, all it takes is adding new appliances to modernise your kitchen. For example, you could add:

Sometimes new appliances can make all the difference to your kitchen.

Paint your kitchen cabinets

Painting your kitchen cabinets is a very easy way for you to modernise your kitchen. All that you need to do is choose the right type and colour of paint. Prime and paint all of your cabinets so they look fresh and transformed. If you couple this with some new appliances your kitchen could look vastly different.

Lay new flooring

The different types of kitchen flooring that are available these days are quite impressive. However, if you want to keep the cost down, opt for vinyl flooring. Flooring such as this can cost less than ceramic tiles or hardwood and can still look good.

Consider vinyl flooring that matches or even complements your kitchen cabinets. Make sure you know how much underlay and flooring you need and get a professional to lay it if you’re not confident to do it yourself.

Install more lighting

If your kitchen is a little dark, installing more lighting is the way forward. More lighting can make a huge difference to your kitchen especially task lighting above work surfaces. If you don’t want to install additional lights, consider replacing your current lights instead. You could opt for a completely different, more modern design to those that are currently in your kitchen.

Hang a pot rail

Hanging a pot rail is a really good way to:

  • Help to clear up clutter
  • Create more space in your kitchen
  • Give your kitchen a whole new look
  • Make the room more inviting

Consider hanging antique copper pots & pans if you have them. They can add an interesting aesthetic to your kitchen.

Replace the cabinet handles

A really good way for you to modernise your kitchen quickly and with ease is to replace the cabinet knobs & handles. Ensure you do this after you’ve painted the kitchen cabinets if you’re doing this as well. If you replace them before you paint them they could get covered in paint and look unsatisfactory. Be sure to drill larger holes for the handles if required, or prepare using wood filler if the screw holes need to be smaller.

Dress the windows differently

Dressing the windows differently can completely transform the look of your kitchen. You could hang colourful roller blinds or patterned bistro curtains. They can help the space appear brighter and more contemporary without the need to spend huge amounts of time or money.

Install a new splashback

The area behind a kitchen sink is prone to becoming wet and mouldy from long-term use. Add a new splashback to help keep the area clean and dry. Use glazed ceramic tiles, should you wish, or even ones made of glass or stainless steel. Enhance the aesthetics of your kitchen with a variety of backsplash tile designs, offering both functionality and style.

Replace cabinet doors with glass panels

Replacing some of your cabinet doors with clear, etched or opaque glass panels can open up your kitchen. It can help your kitchen to seem lighter, brighter and even a little bigger. With a cleaner and more modern look, it will be a welcome addition. Just be sure to wipe off those fingerprints from time to time, so the glass always looks pristine.

As you can see, it can be relatively cheap and easy for you to successfully modernise your kitchen. You don’t have to rip everything out and start again. Simply make a few changes here and there, and your kitchen could look better than it has done for years.
