Forthcoming Attractions: Mid July 2017

Collection of vintage homewares

We put loads of new items in the web shop last week – one of our a ‘Forthcoming Attractions‘ posts would have been very much in order, but we didn’t get round to it – slapped wrists! We vowed to do one soon though – so here it is! It’s a much smaller selection this week, but some nice pieces all the same.

Collection of vintage art glass | H is for Home

For starters, a lovely selection of glass. Various sizes, shapes and colourways – and some famous designers such as Per Lutken and Otto Brauer.

Set of cream & green vintage spice tins with rack | H is for Home

Next up we have a very cute little spice rack. There’s a wall-mountable metal shelf with six labelled metal tin pots. It dates from the 1950s era and is in very good condition – the perfect vintage touch for any kitchen.

Vintage Mills Moore soup spoons and dessert spoons | H is for Home

We don’t normally pick up part sets of cutlery, but we had good reason this time. We had some of this walnut-handled Mills Moore cutlery in our web shop a couple of years ago – and so many people have enquired about it since it sold that we vowed to keep an eye out for more. Perhaps someone out there would like to add these soup and dessert spoons to their collection. It’s very stylish and beautifully made.

Vintage Hornsea Pottery witch birthday mug | H is for Home

One of last weeks item’s was a Hornsea ‘Birthday Mug’ by John Clappison. We’ve decided to add another example from our collection this week – a magnificent spooky witch design. The sweet verse underneath reads:

If I but had THREE WISHES
And only one came true,
I’d ride with these THREE WITCHES
Upon their broom to YOU
HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Orange vintage fondue set | H is for Home

From monochrome to eye-popping colour! This fab orange fondue set looks like the perfect thing for a cold winter’s evening. Log fire, glass of wine, melting cheese – bliss!

Vintage Esquire Drink Book | H is for Home

…and finally a late arrival (today in fact) – the Esquire Drink Book dating from the 1950s. It’s interesting, informative and funny… and is packed with the most gorgeous illustrations by renowned artist (and one of our personal favourites) Bill Charmatz. We already own a copy, so this one’s for sale.

As usual, these pieces will be split between web shop and physical shop, but blog readers will have first dibs – so let us know if anything catches your eye!

Collection of vintage mid century modern pottery homeware items

We’ve picked up some lovely pieces of vintage mid century modern pottery on our travels this week.

Vintage Ceramica di Milano pottery vase | H is for Home

This vase dates from the 1950s/60s and was produced in Italy by Ceramica di Milano. These wares have their devoted fans, but generally speaking they’re not that well known and a bit underrated perhaps. They’re all very individual – and hand painted too. Fabulous decoration on this one with a very stylish bambolina – she’ll break a few hearts!

Vintage pottery bull by Elizabeth Skipworth for Lotus Pottery | H is for Home

This bull was designed by Elizabeth Skipworth for Lotus Pottery in the 1960s. They come in various sizes – this one’s a small money box.

Vintage Hornsea Pottery 'Tricorn' preserve pot | H is for Home

Next we have this stunning, lidded preserve pot. It’s from the ‘Tricorn’ range introduced by Hornsea Pottery in 1958; one of John Clappison’s early designs and becoming increasingly sought after.

Vintage pottery lamp base | H is for Home

This lamp dates from a similar period. Classic fifties colourway of grey & yellow. It’s unmarked, but we’ve had a similar lamp before. The names on the tip of our keypad! It would look great with a new drum shade in a grey hessian.

Vintage Poole Pottery 'Delphis' dish designed by Carol Cutler | H is for Home

Last but certainly not least – a classic piece of Poole Pottery ‘Delphis’ dating from the late 60s or early 70s. It’s by Carol Cutler, one of the most highly regarded decorators at the factory. She has a distinctive style with a wonderful flowing design and stunning colours.

We’ll be listing all these pieces in our webshop in the next few days.

collection of vintage homwares including a vintage push along horse, pair of Hornsea Pottery 7 Dwarfs mugs, Manchester milk bottles and atomic drinking glass set in rack

Here’s a small selection of recent vintage buys.

vintage push along horse

We love the push along horse. It dates from the 1950s/60s and was produced by Triang. A little play worn, but full of charm. It would look great in a child’s bedroom or nursery. We’ve just put it in our antiques centre space, but we could post it if any readers have got the perfect little stable for it.

vintage red alarm clock

We’re always drawn to these old alarm clocks – they add a colourful, vintage touch to a bedroom – if the ticking doesn’t keep you awake, of course!

pair of Hornsea Pottery 7 Dwarfs mugs

This wonderful pair of mugs were produced by Hornsea Pottery in the 1970s – and feature the seven dwarfs. They’re by designer John Clappison – unmistakable really! We’re listing them on eBay as they have a really strong collectors’ appeal. The first one has just ended, and we’ll be putting the second one on shortly.

set of 6 atomic drinking glasses in wire rack

These vintage glasses are real eye poppers – lovely to get the original atomic-styled wire stand too. They’ve got a classic retro diner/milk bar look to them.

collection of Greater Manchester half pint milk bottles

We blogged about these charming little vintage milk bottles earlier in the week. They’re all from different Manchester dairies, and as we mentioned in the post, perfect for a small spray of flowers.
