Vintage flour bags

vintage flour bags for John Hare's self-raising flour | H is for Home

We’ve plumped for these vintage flour bags as our favourite buy of the week.

They’re made of cotton and are quite humble objects, but we like lots of things about them. The gorgeous red lettering & typography, the amazing condition – they’ve survived unused for a hundred years or so – and their re-purposing potential.

They’re obviously perfect for storing flour – storing any similar product come to think of it. They could also hang off hooks to hold wooden spoons & utensils – and make great covers for plastic plant pots. Anything else spring to mind out there?

They add a lovely touch of old world charm to any space. We’ve got hold of a reasonable quantity and will put them in our web shop later on today.

selection of 5 vintage flour sifters

Since featuring a flour sifter in Charity Vintage last week, I’ve gone vintage flour sifter crazy! I’ve come across some mighty fine specimens online that I wanted to share with you.

It’s a shame that the majority of them are over in the USA (they always seem to have the best kitchenalia) and the postage can make them uneconomical to buy. But, you never know, if I came across one that I just HAVE to have…

Justin thought this post should be called “My Little Flour”. I think “Flour Power” is a MUCH better title!

What we did agree on, was that this was the sweetest little vintage enamel flour bin we’ve ever seen – complete with a lovely little scoop too. It’s full of charm and just the thing for all you home bakers out there!

We’re currently mulling over a sage green or orange inspired kitchen when we redecorate. The fate of this bin will depend on the outcome of that debate. Having said that, it will probably go in either!

P.S. Anyone watching The Great British Bake Off at the moment? It’s one of Adelle’s favourites. You could just see it sitting on one of the shelves in the background!
