4 things to make outdoor work easier

Come rain or shine, your garden still needs plenty of love and affection, regardless of whether you’re the green-fingered type or not.

However, although the chores seem endless, if you’re anything like us you’ll want to get the job done yourself, rather than forking out (no pun intended!) for someone else to do it. Plus, there’s nothing more satisfying than sitting down with a cold drink at the end of the day to admire your handiwork.

So, if you’re struggling with the endless gardening tasks you’ve got to do or you want to get more proactive in the garden, we’ve put together some top things that’ll make it even easier.

1. Buy a cool new gadget

While you won’t want to spend a fortune on your gardening paraphernalia, there’s something exciting about having a new gadget to work with. Whether it’s the latest hi-tech lawnmower, the newest hedge trimmer on the market or even an all-singing-all-dancing pair of secateurs, this new tool should give you a boost to get out there and get your jobs done.

What’s more, many newer gadgets will be designed to help you get the job done better and faster than before.

2. Get the right get-up

As well as your tools, having the right clothing can go a long way to making you more productive. From being too hot in the summer to being too cold in the winter, if you aren’t dressed appropriately, this can soon put a stop to your outdoor activities.

So find cool, lightweight garments that’ll keep you going longer in summer and hoodies and heated work jackets that’ll keep you nice and toasty throughout the winter. And, if you know someone who loves their garden but struggles with the weather, these make great gift ideas too.

3. Reassess your priorities

It’s easy to find yourself running out with the lawnmower when the grass starts to look long, but it’s a good idea to try and prioritise your tasks. If you can break the list of jobs down into daily tasks and weekend tasks, they’ll feel much more manageable.

List them in order of priority while also mixing in a few jobs that you want to do (and will enjoy doing). This will make each day in the garden far more bearable and less arduous so you won’t feel overwhelmed every time you pick up your spade.

4. Make it fun

If there’s a particular task you really don’t enjoy doing, try to make it as fun as possible. For example, if mowing the lawn is one of your pet hates, create a funky playlist that you can bop along to – or listen to your favourite author using an audio book. You might just be surprised how quickly the time passes when you do this!

5. Save time

If outdoor work really fills you with dread and you possess a brown thumb – just fake it! Lay your garden with artificial grass and have imitation plants and flowers dotted around in pots. These days, they’re so good at mimicking the real thing, it’s hard to tell the difference! No more lawn mowing or plant watering, it frees up your time so you can get on with things you actually like doing.

Overall, tackling the garden is just like tackling the jobs around your home – you need to break them down into manageable chunks, trying to keep on top of them so they don’t become too overpowering.
