Auction Alert: Fine Auction, Lots Road

UNICORN BENCH

Today’s auction alert is the upcoming Fine Auction sale being held by Lots Road Auctions who are based in London. There will be 552 lots of vintage art, furniture, lighting and miscellaneous collectables. It takes place early next year, on Sunday 8th January 2023 from 11am.

We’ve chosen a few of the weird, wild & wacky – what would be referred to as ‘decorator pieces’ that Lots Road has for sale in this auction. Fibreglass unicorn bench anyone? How about a framed taxidermy lobster? A life-sized mosaic figure of Baby Jesus and Mary? If you’re into quirky conversation starters, this is the auction for you!

A buyer’s premium of 22% + VAT (26.4% inc. VAT) will be levied on all winning lots. Leave bids or bid live online via the Lots Road website – there’s an added 3% + VAT [3.6% inc. VAT] surcharge for this service). Alternatively, use EasyLiveAuction or The Saleroom (additional fees apply on both sites).

The auction house doesn’t provide a postage and packing service themselves, however, they do offer quite a few recommendations for both national and international shipping.

Auction Alert: Sir Terence Conran – The Contents of Barton Court

A large collection of eighteen shaker brushes

The contents of Barton Court, the home of Sir Terence Conran for over 40 years, go under the hammer on Wednesday 14th December 2022 from 10am. The sale of 394 lots takes place live from Bonhams on New Bond Street, London.

Sir Terence (1931-2020) achieved a great deal in his 88 years; he began his professional career working at the Festival of Britain. He was a product designer, retailer, founder of Habitat, The Conran Shop and the Design Museum in Shad Thames, writer, restauranteur (Bibendum on Fulham Road and The Bluebird on Kings Road), art collector, wine drinker, chain smoker of cigars and an all round bon viveur.

I had the pleasure of sitting at a table with Sir Terence at a luncheon hosted by the owners of Whitehead & Sons where he was the special guest.

The items coming up for sale are an eclectic collection as would be expected. Just imagine owning something that once belonged to the great man himself; a stack of books that he authored, maquettes of furniture he designed or smoking accessories and cigars that were famously ever-present between his fingers.

Auction alert: Finery and Fans

Festival of Britain souvenir fan

When I read the title of the upcoming auction – Finery and Fans – my interest was sparked. What could that sale be about? 392 lots from the 19th & 20th centuries will be for sale; primarily hand-held fans, but also antique fashion, textiles and other hand craft items.

I’ve never seen this quantity and variety of fans in one place. They’re all beautiful works of art; there are ones made from peacock feathers, some fashioned out of silk. Many others were created by Ann Collier, a world renowned lacemaker.

The sale is being held by Morphets of Harrogate Ltd on Thursday 1st Dec 2022 from 11am.

All lots are subject to a buyers premium of 20% which is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

Please note lots purchased online via the-saleroom.com website will attract an additional charge for this service in the sum of 4.95% plus VAT of the hammer price. This charge is made by and passed on to the-saleroom.com
Lots purchased via easyliveauction.com will attract an additional charge for this service of 3% plus VAT of the hammer price. This charge is made by and passed on to easyliveauction.com. Alternatively you may pay a flat fee of £3 (inclusive of VAT) to register with easyliveauction.com for an individual auction with no additional internet bidding surcharge for lots bought via easyliveauction.com at that sale.

Morphets do not undertake the delivery or postage of items as in our opinion this is best left to the experts. Unfortunately current legislation prohibits us from recommending couriers.
