Auction alert: TV and Film-related sale

Star Wars Episode I Darth Maul full head latex mask

Having grown up in the 70s & 80s, this week’s Auction Alert really triggered some childhood memories for me. The upcoming TV and Film-related sale takes place on Tuesday 28th March 28 2023 from 10am. It’s being held by Vectis Auctions Ltd who are located in Stockton on Tees.

Almost all my movie and TV viewing from that era has come back to life; Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman, Happy Days, Charlie’s Angels, Little House on the Prairie, Kojak, The A-Team, Dukes of Hazard, Space 1999, Star Wars, Star Trek.

I remember the little girl crushes I had on Erik Estrada from Chips and Paul Michael Glazer from Starsky & Hutch. I wanted to be Farrah Fawcett, I especially wanted her long, blonde hair. I had a series of metal lunch kits (with matching vacuum flasks) that I took my food & drink to school in – mostly Disney character ones, I think. These have now become highly collectable.

Saying all this, the sale includes lots of other memorabilia from the 90s, noughties and the new millennium – I’ve just chosen to reminisce about my youth below!

What TV shows and films did you love when you were growing up?

Auction Alert: Country House Attic Sale

A 'God Speed the Plough' earthenware loving cup etc

The Country House Attic Sale (part of the larger Antique and Collectors Sale) is being held by Mellors & Kirk on Thursday 16th March 2023 from 10am. It consists of 99 interesting lots of mainly antique earthenware and transferware.

We have a very small collection of antique creamware, mainly consisting of a few transfer printed nursery mugs and a trio of graduated blue & white meat plates. I’d love to grow our collection – and this sale is a great opportunity to do just that.

It’s a shame that the auction house doesn’t organise postage – however, they recommend a number of companies that offer the service.

Buyers are charged a premium of 24% (plus VAT) in addition to the hammer price. Subject to a minimum charge of £6 per lot plus VAT

Live bidding platforms attract additional costs as detailed below:
mellorsandkirk.com – 1.5% (plus VAT)
Easyliveauction.com – 3% (plus VAT) on the hammer price of all lots purchased, or a flat fee of £3.00 is taken by Easyliveauction. Note: This fee will be taken regardless of whether you bid on or purchase lots.

Auction alert: The Art & Design Sale

Sir Grayson Perry CBE, RA, Lion Queen plate

Although we’ve known about Grayson Perry for years, mainly due to his famous penchant for cross-dressing, we didn’t really know much more about him and his work. Thanks to watching his 3 series of Grayson’s Art Club, he’s now a firm favourite (as is his wife, Philippa) in our house – for his work, his warm personality and his infectious laugh.

Today’s featured auction includes a pottery plate by him (pictured above) – and another by Philippa – both with very reasonable estimates. In addition, are a couple of pumpkins by ceramic artist, Yayoi Kusama, who we previously featured on our blog over 20 years ago.

The Art & Design Sale at Cheffin’s takes place on Thursday 23rd February 2023, from 10am. A total of 442 lots come under the hammer and we’ve highlighted eleven of our favourite ones below.
