What person wouldn’t love a room in their home dedicated to housing their footwear? This shoe display is something to behold! If you dream of owning a collection of Manolos or rare sneakers, this dressing room would appeal.

The owner of this space lives such a glamorous life; she lives in London and is a TV wildlife film-maker who frequently travels the world. She regularly features her cute ‘fluffbags’ Squid and Goose on her squares – hence the Instagram moniker.

What I love about this space is the level of organisation and neatness – a lady after my own heart! Check out the rest of her Insta-stream; all her clothes are arranged on wall-to-wall open racks, but they’re so orderly… fashion goals!

Price Points: Old skool sneakers

Black old skool sneakers | H is for Home

My (only) pair of trainers are coming to the end of their life. I’ve had them for at least 15 years and the soles are worn down to the thickness of paper and the fabric is splitting across the vamp where the toe joints bend. They’re a pair of all-black Nikes and I’d like to replace them with something fairly similar.

I don’t like trainers that are too high-tech – you know, those made with colourful space-age material, aerodynamic shape, computer-engineered soles and all that. I just want a pair of old skool sneakers. ‘Sneakers’ must be an old fashioned word – my spell-check tells me it doesn’t exist!

I know exactly what I want from my new pair. I’d prefer if they were low-tech canvas or hemp. They need to be black all over, I don’t like black uppers with thick white sidewalls. This kind of style is so They can be worn with jeans, skirt or dress – really versatile.

I usually prefer the look of Pumas over other brands. However, I’m tempted by the £90 Nikes – they’re completely customisable. You can choose the material; the colour of the base, quarter, swoosh, laces, outsole and sidewalls; style of the tongue… you can even have customised text printed to the underside of the tongue!

  1. Old Skool Lite: £55, Vans
  2. Suede Classic+ trainers: £58, Puma
  3. Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski iD skateboarding shoe: £90, Nike

Price Points: Winter slippers

Selection of winter slippers

When we finished photographing items for our recent George at Asda collaboration, Justin snaffled the slippers in lightning quick time. I pointed out that they were a bit big, but he pointed out back that come mid winter, they’ll be combined with thick woollen socks, so no problem. There was just no getting them back!

I wear surf slippers during the summer, but when the weather turns cold, I need a proper pair of winter slippers – I suffer with bad circulation!

I’ve had two pairs of the North Face tent mules (#1) in the past and I absolutely love them. When you wear them, it feels like your feet have their own personal duvets!

Number 2 from The White Company, look super cosy too with their faux fur, but appear most suitable for a world of soft carpets, beds and other clean furnishings. Number 3 – classic Ugg slippers, also look very comfortable, but more robust. Their waterproof, rubber soles will allow for trips out into the garden or bin emptying duties!

  1. The North Face Nuptse Tent Mule: £32.50, Surf Mountain
  2. Faux fur cosy slippers – mink: £ 35.00, The White Company
  3. Women’s Tasman: £85, Ugg

Price Points: Walking sandals

Walking sandals | H is for Home

After many years of loyal service, my current walking sandals – a pair of Keen Newports – died a death last summer. Despite that, I love them so much that I’ve glued the soles back together, then the laces snapped so I’ve knotted those back together…

Now that the weather’s become warm enough to transition from walking boots back to sandals, I’ve dragged the old faithfuls back out once again. If I’m honest, I’m flogging a dead horse, they’re now really tatty and won’t last until the end of this summer.

The new pair will see daily use, up to 3 dog walks per day… every day, and I’ll need a new pair that can cope with the moorland terrain. I love the look of most Keen sandals, so the orange pair above are my favoured replacements.

  1. Keen Clearwater CNX walking sandals: £72.28, Amazon
  2. Teva Kimtah leather sandals: £85.00, Cotswold Outdoor
  3. Merrell All Out Blaze Sieve sandals: £81.00, GOoutdoors
