This week, we have this sugared almond coloured, 50s American diner inspired kitchen of Joanne – blog owner of Hardcastle Towers. When I was choosing which image of the kitchen to use, I couldn’t decide on just one, so I created an animation of a few of them!

I love the use of bright colours. The spearmint painted walls, chairs and stand mixer; bubblegum pink fridge, cake tin and wellies; creamy range cooker and coffee machine… all atop a classic black & white chequerboard floor.

There are so many interesting accessories for the eyes to feast upon. There are beautiful, practical items such as pitchers and measuring jugs and whimsical ones like the glitter ball and paper pineapple.

You can follow the progress of this lovely vintage industrial kitchen diner on Laura Montgomery-Coleman’s inspirational Instagram feed.

I love a shelfie shot with lots going on – especially if it involves loads of different-sized glass jars, all neatly organised with embossed Dymo labels. It’s so much more attractive than having a mish-mash collection of cellophane bags of sugar, pasta and dried pulses.

This small area is a reflection of the whole space actually – practical & functional yet great to look at.

Like our kitchen – this one is serious about its coffee; I’m admiring that no-nonsense Sage bean to cup machine!

This brass & pink open-plan kitchen makes such a bold statement.It’s the home of Alex McCabe one of the co-owners of Kip&Co – an Aussie company we’ve posted about before. We’ve also featured a room in one of the other co-owner’s Kate Heppell’s home.

The beautiful brass-fronted kitchen cabinets were hand-aged using apple cider vinegar. Performing this task means the surface skips that ‘grubby fingerprint’ stage and it can get on with developing a lovely patina.

The exact shade of pink found in the ‘crocodile’ bamboo quartzite splash-back is colour-matched in the cast concrete island.

In the foreground, the vintage slouchy leather sofa – generously scattered with Kip&Co cushions – looks an inviting spot to stretch out and relax – whether it be reading a book, listening to music or gazing out into the garden through the large expanse of glass.

Did you know that the tiny house movement is a thing? In this age of over-population, shortage of space, through-the-roof house prices and overuse of the planet’s natural resources, scaling down our living habits has become a more and more popular lifestyle option.

This tiny house kitchen, above, is a great example of how we can go about making less of an impact on our environment. This is a micro space that’s big on usefulness and practicality. As with any room that’s compact, utilising the vertical space is a must; keeping stuff off the floor gives a sense of calm and avoids clutter.

There are huge amounts of storage; a near-ceiling, overhead shelf runs the perimeter of the room. There are wall hung racks and shelves, under-sink shelves and window shelves. Vintage wooden boxes and wicker baskets are dotted around the room to hide things away and keep everything tidy.
