Auction alert: Troika

An online studio pottery auction is currently underway. The sale, Troika subtitled, “A remarkable single-owner collection of Troika Pottery”, ends on 23^rd July 2023 at 6pm.

We’ve covered Troika on our blog in the past, we’re longstanding fans of the pottery. This sale includes many rare and special pieces (such as the Aztec face masks) by artists such as Alison Brigden, Penny Black and Avril Bennet. There are 47 lots in total, we’ve highlighted just a few of them below.

Absentee and live bids can be placed via the Elstob & Elstob website at no additional charge. However, there’s a buyer’s premium of 25% (ex. VAT).

Lot 2004: PENNY BLACK FOR TROIKA POTTERY, AN AZTEC DOUBLE SIDED FACE MASK

Decorated in shades of brown, blue, white and green, painted mark. 25.5cm high, 19cm wide. Tiny fleck of paint loss but in otherwise good condition without chips, cracks or restoration.

Auction alert: Enamel Signs & Advertising Memorabilia

An Auction of Enamel Signs & Advertising Memorabilia takes place on Thursday 6^th July 2023, starting at 10am at Truro Auction Centre in Redruth, Cornwall. A total of 404 lots will be for sale:

A local estate single collection of over 300 enamel signs, advertising memorabilia, pump globes, vehicle mascots and collectables

Some people are specialists in the field of old enamel advertising and know the value and scarcity of one sign over another. Others are completely obsessed collectors, willing to pay in the high hundreds of pounds for particular pieces. I just know what I like and what catches my eye – with no idea about what it’s worth. In this sale, I’m most attracted to the Yorkshire Relish, Holdfast Boots and Macleans Tooth Paste signs.

Auction Alert: Summer Antiques & Interiors Auction

When we lived in Yorkshire, Hartleys Auctioneers and Valuers in Ilkley used to be one of our favourite places to pick up stock – and items for personal use too. It’s been a long, long time since we shared any fresh, vintage stock that’s heading to our webshop and our eBay listings page.

We’d say that today’s offerings fall into two general vintage camps; mid century modern and antique rustic.

The midcentury stock includes kitchenalia items and kids’ stuff…

…and art glass including a number of attractive paperweights.

Glass also features in our rustic antique grouping – in the form of a collection of apothecary or chemist bottles.

Also in this set is a dozen antique wooden bobbins – great for displaying and storing ribbon, wool or rope.
