"Hello my name is..." pet ID tag
“Hello my name is” pet ID tag: $9.99, eBay

We finally got round to buying a new collar for Fudge this weekend – the old one had popped off a couple of times recently leaving us holding on to a dangling empty lead! He also lost his ID tag some months ago somewhere up in the Pennine hills so now’s a good time to replace that as well.

We love the red square “Hello my name is” tag that’s designed to look like those naff stickers you get stuck to your lapel on arrival at a conference.

Wednesday Wish: Wilton Bake Even Strips

Wilton bake even strips

Over the past couple of months, I’ve been busy baking lots of bread & cakes and getting to know our new oven. I discovered Wilton Bake Even Strips over on Amazon last week and never even knew a thing like this even existed!

All you need to do is soak one in a bit of water and wrap it around the circumference of your cake tin before it goes into the oven. Apparently, it stops your cake from cracking on the top (something that cheesecakes are especially prone to) or forming that little hillock in the centre. Just the trick for achieving perfectly flat cakes needed for beautiful looking iced tops and jam-filled layers!

Wednesday Wish: Conservatory

selection of four types of conservatory

We’ve lived in our current house for 11 years now. When we first moved in we said that we’d like to put a little glass “lean-to” conservatory on the back of the house. Well, it’s still not there!

There are a couple of companies, Apropos and Vevo, that do just the kind of thing we’re after. We’ve got an awkward spot to fit it into – old houses like ours are famous for having no straight walls or right angled corners – but they seem to be able to build glass constructions into all kinds of spaces nowadays!  We’d love to make it our spring project but there’s one small problem – vet bills!

Wednesday Wish: Numatic vacuum cleaner

Collection of different models of Numatic vacuum cleaners

It’s never easy keeping our home clean, we’re constantly in & out – coming through the door with muddy boots & paws. We’ve been trying extra hard to keep our new wooden floors… well… new-looking!

We currently have two vacs – an orange Hoover from the 1960s/70s which blows more dust than it picks up and another bagless one with little suction that needs constant emptying – they make an unenjoyable job even worse!

What I’d really like is a Numatic vacuum cleaner. There’s a whole family of them to choose from – each with a different specialism. Red Henry is the most famous but I think I’m going for Harry. He’s specially designed for ‘pet loving’ people – a euphemism, I think, for homes that may have pet hair & odour issues! 😉
