As the old saying goes, ‘home is where the heart is’. When it comes to your home, you’re going to want a space where you can feel completely comfortable. You’re also going to want it to look how you want it to look. Many of us feel that our properties are a reflection of ourselves, letting others see what we like, how we like to live and giving a little insight into our character and personality. Our homes also tend to be the most expensive investment we make in our lives. This is where our biggest monthly payments leave our bank account, whether that’s rent or mortgage payments. So, it’s not at all surprising that many of us decide to get into a little home improvement every once in a while to keep on top of things. Here are just a few things you can do to give your home a new look and feel, creating a comfortable environment and a cosy atmosphere for you to enjoy day in and day out.
Decluttering and deep cleaning
Decluttering and deep cleaning should be the first steps carried out on any home improvement journey. We all want to live in a clean and clear environment, free of overwhelming clutter and mess. Decluttering and deep cleaning can help your home to feel completely new again. Remove any belongings you neither want nor need from your home, selling them, donating them, giving them away or recycling them. Then tackle your whole property, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping down surfaces, cleaning toilets and more. This will leave your home looking spick-and-span.
Furniture
Replacing old furniture in your home can help to update it; giving it a more modern feel, or work as a serious design statement, completely changing the look and feel of a room. It can be a style addition, it can be a functional addition or it can be a comfort addition to any space. From a new bed to built-in wardrobes, painted dressers, a sofa or anything else, furniture really can be a completely home-changing investment.
Painting and decorating
Giving your walls a lick of fresh paint can make your home feel so much more fresh and new. You can choose to completely change the look of a room by opting for a new colour scheme. If you go for this option, make sure to use a range of different paint samples before choosing the right tone for you. Remember that colours can look different on different surfaces and in different lights, so only by patch testing on the wall can you see how your chosen colours finally dry and look. You don’t necessarily have to change the colour scheme though. Using the same colour you already have can just help to spruce up the space, correcting colour change or damage and making your room look refreshed!
These steps can take some work, but they’ll be more than worth it in the end. Hopefully, some will help you to get your home on track again!
