Well, Barley, our Weimaraner puppy has now been with us for 5 weeks, and we’re seeing him grow in stature and personality. He’s become a wonderful companion, if a tad naughty at times!
There is one particular thing that he does that bothers us; the way he wolfs down his food at mealtimes. It’s worrying because his breed is prone to developing gastric torsion or bloat which can prove fatal. Since it’s futile trying to make him slow down simply be telling him to, we’re going to have to go shopping for slow feeder dog bowls.
The design of the various bowls makes it physically impossible for a dog to bolt down their food in seconds. They have to extract morsels from multiple crevices and crannies, thereby slowing down the feeding process.
