Our new shop space

In a recent blog post about a Blomus tea set, we mentioned our new shop space.

Well, here it is! It’s an attractive corner plot directly opposite the antiques centre from where we currently sell. This was a good opportunity to spread things out a bit. We’re sharing the shop with a couple of other dealers.

Our space has got a lovely, big display window.

…and a neglected window box which had potential to look very pretty.

So, what to do next!  Mmmm… let’s mull this over.

We moved into the space over a couple of days. We wanted to combine our twin loves of mid century modern and rustic country styles.

And here are the results. We hope it looks like the kind of shop in which you’d like to browse. If you ever get the chance to visit, we’re right next to the library in Todmorden – at the junction of Hall Street and Rochdale Road. Picturehouse Antiques, where we also sell from, is directly across the road – and there are loads of good places to get coffee and cake close by!

Justin took lots of snaps which we’ve included below to give you a good feel of the new place. We hope to see you there one day!

Gordon Rigg anniversary allotment

Gordon Rigg installation with vintage photos and delivery bicycle

Our local garden centre, Gordon Rigg, is celebrating its 70th year in business.

It started as a small market stall and has grown over the decades into a huge garden centre – in fact they now have more than one outlet.

We popped in on Sunday to pick up tomato feed and chain saw oil ( it’s one of those places where you can buy almost anything!).

They had installations marking the anniversary, so we took a few snaps.

We were quite taken by the vintage allotment – weathered greenhouse, galvanised metal containers, old tools – and a cosy shed to rest, listen to the radio and drink tea.

It’s just our kind of thing – allotment chic!!

Lamplighter Festival 2014

The Lamplighter Festival brightened up our evening dog walk here in Todmorden on Saturday.

We took a camera along and hope our snaps capture the atmosphere.

Todmorden sits in in a steep-sided valley so you could stand above the town and watch the parade as it meandered through the streets which was very pretty.

We then moved in for a closer look at the creations and their operators, listen to the drummers and view the more stationary installations.

The festival seems to combine quite an ancient tradition with a futuristic feel too – a bit Blade Runner!

It’s only the festival’s second year, but we think it’s got real potential for a long term future. It’s perfect for a dark winter evening and seems to suit the winding streets and old stone buildings of Todmorden.

Both kids & adults were having fun. In addition to the parade, there were various food stalls and the local bars were doing a roaring trade.
