We’ve chosen a piece of vintage Danish furniture for this week’s favourite buy.

Vintage Eva chair by Koefoeds Hornslet of Denmark

This Eva carver armchair was designed by Niels Koefoed in 1964.

The chair is made of teak with a plain, black, leatherette seat. It has a strong mid century modern look just standing bare, but we also like the addition of a bold colour throw or cushion. Orange always works well!

 Its condition is very good and it’s fully stamped and labelled to the underside.

It’s very elegant and would work well as a dining, office or occasional chair. As with most of our furniture buys, it’s on its way to our antiques centre space, but you’re welcome to collect or have a courier pick it up. The price is £125, but we could knock off the twenty five if it helps with the petrol costs!

This gorgeous vase has to be our favourite acquisition of the week!

It was designed by Johanne Gerber for Denmark’s Royal Copenhagen Pottery in the 1960s.

It’s from the Tenera range and features this wonderful stylised fruit pattern.

We love the subtle burnt oranges & yellows combined with the strong black – and the slightly dimpled texture adds further interest too.

 It’s a good size, standing at just over 20cm tall and has real impact – in fact, it was the first thing we noticed in a large auction space filled with two hundred other objects!

Charity Vintage: Nymolle wall plaques

Sense* currently has this pair of vintage Nymolle wall plaques for sale. They were designed for the company by Bjørn Wiinblad. Best known for his ceramic pieces, he also produced posters, textiles and paintings. We’ve had a few of his designs – most of which we’ve kept for ourselves!

We have the complete set of 12 displayed along a wall leading up stairs. It’s a coincidence that the two months for sale here, April and November, are our birthday months. Funny that April (Justin) represents ‘Konflikt’ and November (Adelle) is ‘Optimisme’. You don’t need to be fluent in Danish to know what they mean! 🙂

'Denmark... a lovely land' vintage children's book

We recently completed our World Dolls Series blog posts. Our series took us to Norway but it didn’t make a detour into any of the neighbouring Scandinavian countries.

Denmark… a lovely land, is set out as ‘a letter from Denmark’. It’s addressed to ‘Nina’ and gives her an insight into the country with the help of a music score, black & white photos and lovely colour illustrations. The book looks to date from the 1950s and was written by Inger Oppenhejm with illustrations by Laus Lauesen.

It’s up for sale by & in support of The Martlets Hospice* at a ‘buy it now’ price of £13.50 with free postage.

*The Martlets Hospice is an independent charity, caring for adults with a life limiting disease where a cure is no longer possible, in the Brighton and Hove area. Specialist palliative care is provided for patients. Support is given to families and carers during the patients’ illness and into bereavement.
