Auction alert: Lady Elizabeth Hart Collection and The Wallace Collection of Oriental Art

An extensive Midwinter Riviera pattern table service

This week, we’re featuring the Three Day Fine Art and Antique Auction, including the Lady Elizabeth Hart Collection and The Wallace Collection of Oriental Art. The sale will take place at Bamfords Auctioneers & Valuers‘ head office, their auction house in Derby, which lies 10 minutes off the M1 on the Nottingham side of the city. The sale dates & times will be as follows:

  • 5th May 2022 from 10am
  • 6th May 2022 from 10am
  • 9th May 2022 from 10am

There’ll be a massive 1,724 lots going under the hammer across the three days. After trawling and trawling through the lots, we stumbled across some unexpected items. Tucked away within the more ‘fancy’ antiques – after the silver and jewellery and before the large collection of European and Far Eastern art we found the following few mid 20th century gems. We can’t believe the low estimate on the Midwinter Riviera set!

Bamfords charges a buyers’ premium of 24.75% plus VAT on the hammer price of each lot.

Live online bidding is available for all our auctions via www.easyliveauction.com or www.the-saleroom.com.  The charge for using these services is 3.6% of the hammer price or a flat fee of £3 with no further premium being charged for EasyLiveAuction and 5.5% of the hammer price (plus VAT where chargeable) for The Saleroom.

Bamfords can offer postage on items of a small and non-fragile nature, our minimum charge is £19.50 for Royal Mail Special Delivery service. Please be aware that we cannot offer postage of jewellery, weapons, ceramics or paintings & pictures and we do not offer postage internationally.

On our radar: Ilex Studio Acorn Vase and Avocado vase

Ilex Studio Acorn Vase® and Avocado vase®

As well as on Pinterest, we come across many brilliant products while scrolling through Instagram. That’s where we spotted these beautiful seed germination vases. They’re very much like traditional hyacinth vases but designed to accommodate an acorn or avocado stone.

You can buy the vases either with or without the already sprouting seed. As the vases are made of clear glass, you can watch the roots & shoots develop and grow into little saplings. Subsequently, they can be planted out into a garden or greenhouse and you can begin the process over again!

Vintage wooden drawers for seeds and twine | H is for Home Vintage Balinese Girl framed print by Vladimir Tretchikoff | H is for Home

Here’s our pick of the items soon to be available here at H is for Home. Autumn has arrived, so horticulture isn’t at the top of many people’s lists, but there’s still plenty to do in the garden at this time of year – and there’s also planning for next spring to consider.

This old wooden box for seeds, twine and tools is perfect for keeping gardening things organised. It has a pull-out drawer and lift-up lid with shelved interior, providing lots of storage space… and it looks gorgeous too!

And, speaking of gorgeous – what about this lovely lady? An original, vintage framed & glazed print of Balinese Girl by Vladimir Tretchikoff. She’s so striking – and one of our personal favourites from this series of works by the artist.

Vintage West German floor vase | H is for Home Vintage ceiling lampshade | H is for Home

The vibrant colour continues with this huge West German floor vase dating from the 1960s/70s. We love the bold orange and thick, dripping glaze. You couldn’t fail to notice this fabulous piece of pottery in any home décor scheme!

Hailing from the same era we have the aluminium light shade. This looks amazing when hung – the bulb light piercing the faceted plastic sections, casting beautiful shadows on the ceiling and walls. Perfect for a mid century modern space, suspended from the ceiling… or perhaps positioned down low over a dining table.

All items are available to buy now.
