On our radar: Melin Tregwynt dog collars and leads

We really miss our beloved Fudge who passed away a couple of years ago now. It’s been a struggle to face the loss or think about another dog. He brought us so much happiness though, so despite the pain of losing him, we know that when the time is right, we’ll make space for a new canine companion.

And we’ll, of course, spoil them rotten! In addition to good food, long walks and comfy beds – they’ll have all the right kit – including smart coats, collars and leads. This Melin Tregwynt range caught our eye the other day.

Melin Tregwynt woollen mill dates back to the 18th century, but they’re always looking to innovate and develop their products. Their dog collars and leads and matching bandanas are something new that’s appeared recently. With our H is for Home colour scheme, we were always going to be drawn to the two-tone green version!

Fudge has been collared!

We received a surprise cheque in the post last week. Not a lottery style win or anything, but a couple of hundred pounds that we weren’t expecting. So, only one thing for it – ‘save half, spend half!’. Adelle got a pair of new shoes, Justin needs some new jeans – and Fudge got a lovely new collar & lead set.

They were ordered from Suzy Q based in Hove. Not on the High Street give 5% of the sale price to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Lovely attention to detail in the packaging – nice tissue paper wrapping, pretty labels and a dog treat!

The collars are very well made – and customised too which is included in the price. Just one word of caution – if you have a dog that pulls very hard, we have known this type of clip-in fastening to pop open suddenly. This might be an issue if your dog has an aggressive streak, runs into busy roads or heads off into the hills as soon as it gets chance!

We went for the vibrant orange – he might be ten years old, but Fudge still likes to turn heads. You can almost hear him saying, “Don’t I look handsome… not bad for an old man”. The George Clooney of the canine world!

Selection of dog collar & lead sets

It’s National Pet Month, so we’ve commissioned our Weimaraner to edit this week’s Gimme Five! offering. Over to you Fudge!

I’m into fashion – but only up to a point. I’m not into diamanté or metal studs or anything like that. I like to look trendy but not be too bling. I’m a down-to-earth, practical lad; I like to keep warm, keep dry and keep safe. So my entire wardrobe consists of a Drizabone coat (warm & dry) and a collar & lead. For me, anything more than squiffy bandana is too dressed up.

Luckily, with the fur I have, accessories in almost any colour suit me well. For day to day wear I tend to opt for black – classic and unassuming. I also like red, mossy green and orange.

My current collar & lead combo is looking past its best – I blame all the walks out in the wind and rain – it’s weather-beaten and beginning to disintegrate. I’ve had them for years and I think I’m due an upgrade anyway!
