It’s Left-Handers Day soon, let’s hear it for lefties! We’re the forgotten minority. You right-handed folks don’t know how easy you have it! If you look up left-handed in the dictionary, you find terms such as ‘awkward’, ‘clumsy’, ‘gauche’, ‘sinister’, ‘insincere’, ‘maladroit’. Now, is that really fair?

There are so many things right-handers take for granted – learning to knit & crochet; learning to play the guitar, piano – even trumpet; playing sports such as golf or hockey; using a pair of scissors, knife, egg beater or tin opener. I could go on & on…

Left-handers are meant to be more artistic, creative and intelligent. Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo – both lefties. Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe – both lefties. Albert Einstein and Aristotle, yeah, you guessed it, both lefties.

Let’s hear it for lefties!

Love Parks Week runs from 24 July – 2 August; it’s in its 9th year. Considering we’re such a small island nation, we’re spoilt for choice in the UK when it comes to the outdoors. There are a total of 15 official National Parks. From the coastline of Pembrokeshire to the fells of the Lake District, from the white cliffs of the South Downs to the wide skies of the Norfolk Broads, there’s such a diversity of landscape to enjoy.

We’ve had an exceptional summer of sport so far this year. The England team last week came 3rd in the Women’s World Cup – the best either the men or the women have done since 1966! We stayed up ’til way past midnight to watch the matches, but the quality and excitement made it worthwhile.

We’re a week into Wimbledon Fortnight and local girl Heather Watson gave Serena Williams a scare… and, for a while, the British public a glimmer of hope.

We’re currently engrossed in the Tour de France – an annual favourite of ours – last year’s Yorkshire Grand Départ a memory we savour.

Next week sees the start of The Open Golf at historic St Andrews in Scotland. I’ll be a golf widow for a week, but I might join Justin in watching the final few holes.
