Charity Vintage: Kenwood Chef mixer

Vintage Kenwood Chef mixer for sale by & in support of Kirkwood Hospice(ends 6 Feb, 2014 20:10:43 GMT)

I’d been on the lookout for an orange vintage Kenwood Chef food mixer for a long, long time. They may be 30 or 40 years old but they were built to last and are proper work-horses. They’re not the kind of thing you happen across often in charity shops or auctions but they are out there.

Kenwood Chefs come up now & again on eBay but as they’re so heavy the postage often makes buying one prohibitive. In 2006, I eventually won one on eBay and we drove to collect it from Stockport – about an hour away. It’s been in regular use ever since!

A white (well, off-white, it needs a bit of a clean!) model is currently up for sale by Kirkwood Hospice* based in Huddersfield. It comes with 3 attachments – balloon whisk, k-beater and dough hook – and original recipe booklet.

*Kirkwood Hospice provides specialist care for those people in Kirklees facing life-threatening illness. We respect individual needs and wishes, caring for each person to help them achieve the best possible quality of life. Families, friends and carers are offered additional support and help during the patient’s illness and in bereavement.

We’ve picked up a varied selection of interesting, vintage bits & bobs at this week’s Thursday flea market. They’ll be going into our shop very soon.

You probably couldn’t help but notice the HUGE shoe in the background of the group shot – it’s a vintage American advertising sign for Alox shoelaces.

orange & white vintage electric food grinder

Orange kitchen appliances and vintage utensils are always sure-fire winners so we always pick them up when we come across them.

trio of vintage 1950s nursery rhymes, ABC and counting picture books

These vintage 1950s children’s reading & counting books are in such excellent condition. Apparently the original owner was an ex-nursery school teacher who made sure her charges took great care with them!

We’ve always been adamant that H is for ‘Home’ – but apparently not. H is for ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and don’t they look delicious ones?

white vintage goose neck desk lamp

Vintage desk lamps are also a hit with our customers. We’ve had this particular design of lamp many times over the years – great shape & very functional. Perfect for the home office or bedside table.

vintage Christmas chocolate biscuit tin

Our favourite item this week is probably this vintage chocolate biscuit tin. The Christmas-y illustration is delightful and it’s in tremendous condition.

This is the last time we talk about the flood… promise, promise, promise!

Our insurance company has finally started sending us through compensation payments for all the things destroyed on the fateful day. We were sent a prepaid Comet credit card this week to pay for the replacement of all our waterlogged electrical items.

Luckily our lovely, orange, vintage Kenwood food mixer was on a high shelf but our food processor was in a low cupboard and drowned! We paid a visit to Comet this week to have a look, read a few reviews on the Amazon website and decided on this handsome devil!
