Price Points: Jungle style

Jungle style interior ideas | H is for Home

A theme that’s gaining in popularity at the moment is jungle style. Sometimes, you just want to open your front door and step into a fantasy world – at least some of us that live in a cold, rainy Pennine valley do!

I really like a rainforest vibe; it’s relaxing, exotic and fun. You can easily set the mood with sound – a recording of soft rain falling on to broad-leaved trees, fast-moving waterfalls and the shrill of cicadas… We sometimes play soothing rainforest soundscapes via Spotify through our Sonos speakers to help us fall asleep.

A feature wall papered with a bold jungle print helps bring a tropical vibe to a room. Dot a few big architectural houseplants such as palms, ferns and rubber plants around the room and it’s almost like being in the Amazon!

I just love these playful lights – available in black or white – of monkeys striking different poses. A group of these simian pranksters would make a brilliant talking point!

Get their look: Mid-century-inspired kitchen-diner

Mid-century-inspired kitchen-dinercredit

This is the kind of mid-century-inspired kitchen-diner where I’d happily spend lots of time; cooking, eating, entertaining, relaxing.

It’s an incredible use of space with a very unusual kitchen island / breakfast bar combo. Most breakfast bars are designed in such a way that you perch atop an often uncomfortable bar stool; these vintage Scandi Model 42 dining chairs are a far preferable alternative!

There’s oodles of storage and display space thanks to the custom-built shelving unit in the centre of the photo above. I love the detail of the top shelf following the slope of the ceiling. I wouldn’t be surprised if there wasn’t even more storage in the base of that bench!

Get their look: Vintage minimalist kitchen

Vintage minimalist kitchencredit

Jes and Caleb describe their style as ‘Vintage Minimalist’ which is plain to see in the kitchen of their Pennsylvania home.

The space is pared back and simple – and, whilst not devoid of interesting objects on display, it’s free of unnecessary clutter. There’s lots of natural light which bounces off the brilliant white paintwork and Marmoleum flooring. A feature wall in a much darker colour adds interest – the mushroom shade picked up in the flecked flooring pattern and cupboard doors. Both the light and dark combine well with the natural wood of the counter tops, chopping boards and wall clock. It looks like a very comfortable and practical space in which to live.

Get their Look: Blue & copper kitchen

Blue & copper kitchencredit

Blue isn’t our obvious ‘go to’ colour for interior decoration, however, this blue & copper kitchen is just soooo gorgeous!

It may be compact, but what it doesn’t have in space it more than makes up for in style. Copper fixtures & fittings make a welcome change from the usual stainless steel. The cupboards and shelves are all handmade and those tiles… those tiles! The turquoise scallop tiled wall is the star of the show. The shades of blue work so well with the walnut wood.

Wraparound shelves and work surfaces are kept clear of all but the most necessary and oft used of items – kettle, bread bin, mugs, knives and utensils. Keeping clutter at bay helps to keep the space light and airy.
