Gabi Citron-Tengborg was born in 1930 in Gdańsk, Poland. She graduated from the Konstfackskolan in Stockholm and, during the mid-1950s, she worked alongside Lisa Larson under Stig Lindberg at Gustavsberg for a couple of years. While there she designed a few ranges for the company; Buckla, Löva and Vinga. She went on to create designs for Jie Gantofta. between 1972 and 1974.

I couldn’t find out much more information about her and I only found this one, small portrait photo. I also could only find a few examples of her work currently for sale on Etsy.

If any of you out there know anything else about her – we’d love to hear from you!

Designer Desire: Anita Nylund

Mosaic of Anita Nylund designs | H is for Home

Born in 1931, Anita Nylund is the daughter of the late Gunnar Nylund, Artistic Director of Rörstrand. Her grandfather Felix was a Finnish painter and sculptor, so she’s from a great artistic pedigree.

She studied at Otte Skölds Målarskola in Stockholm and then on to Paris and Florence. On her return to Sweden, she began working as a ceramic designer at Jie Gantofta where she produced a plethora of often folk-inspired designs.

The patterns included ‘Vår lilla stad’ (Our small town), ‘Familjen Pepparsson’ (Pepper family), ‘Prisma’ (Prism), ‘Cookie’ and ‘Janssons frestelse’ (Jansson’s temptation). They decorate plates, platters and serving dishes, salt & pepper shakers, salt pigs, butter dishes and all manner and size of storage jars.

Examples can be found readily on eBay and are still fairly affordable for the time being. Definitely one to watch!

Groovy Week!

Triptych of vintage collectables | H is for Home

In an average week’s sourcing, we buy items from many eras – from antique rustic stools to modernist stainless steel candle holders. However, for some reason this week’s purchases have all been very 1950s and 60s. As you can see from the photos – atomic, flower power and psychedelic designs are very much in evidence – with slots of bold colours & great patterns.

It’s hard to pick favourites, but the metal waste paper basket by Worcester Ware and the Gaytime measuring jug by Lord Nelson Pottery are outstanding. Other makers include Jie Gantofta for the tea/sugar jars, Kirkham Pottery for the egg cups and English Ironstone Pottery for the bull steak plates.
