Have you ever seen such a lush looking space? Zoë must have super-green fingers, this sitting room is a real houseplant haven!

The Swiss cheese plants (Monstera deliciosa) with their large, glossy leaves make the room feel rainforest-like. The mother-in-law’s tongue is brilliant at air purification. They remove most of the nasties that cause sick building syndrome and are one of the few plants that release oxygen at night. Both are low maintenance and simple to care for.

The natural, neutral décor provides the perfect backdrop for the plants to shine!

Just look at this photo! Everywhere you look there are glass windows and doors letting in bucket-loads of sunshine. Talk about letting the outside in. The light-filled, open-plan space is a real family-centric room. Whoever it is that’s doing the food prep can keep an eye on homework, socialise with guests round for dinner or chat to the loafer on the sofa!

We’re huge fans of the adage ‘reduce, reuse, recycle, repair’. California-based Kate Keesee (great name!) accomplishes this mantra in her home with such flair. Just have a look at her stunning upcycled living space. That amazing jute wall hanging was the thing that grabbed me first when I was looking through her Insta-feed. She, herself, explains her approach best:

My home and style aesthetic tells a story of “rescued from the heap”. My squares will never look like someone else’s as they were never meant to because they are mine. ‍♀️The old bi-fold door here I painted dark to create warmth against the white walls. I used a broken wood gate from the trash and built a coffee table using an old picnic bench as the base. Our home evolves on the pieces I create and the discarded items of others that I breathe life back into. Create your own beautiful story it never requires money it requires your heart. ♥️♥️♥️

I’ve just discovered this fairly new web shop – Bamaluz Home – that sells the most beautiful, hand-made homeware items. The wall hangings, cushions, dream catchers and other ornaments are made by owner, Elle, using ethically sourced materials.

I just had to feature this family friendly living space; I think it’s probably the best example of a multi-generational, open-plan room I’ve seen. This interior proves that children’s furniture and other accoutrements don’t have to be badly designed, ugly or made of jarring, brightly coloured plastic.
