Toy miniature woven garden chairs | H is for Home

Last week’s quirky item was a vintage miniature organ – this week we’re going even smaller in scale, with this even more miniature woven garden furniture.

They’re very 1950s – and very sweet too. The set comprises of a table & four chairs, a bench and two armchairs. To give you some idea of size, each chair stands 9cm or 3½ inches tall.

We like the lemon yellow and crisp white colourway – and the detail is fabulous. It’s so pretty – we’d happily use it in our own garden if we were 6 inches tall ourselves!

selection of vintage miniature items

We don’t know if it’s the hot weather shrinking everything, but we’ve certainly picked up lots of miniature items recently.

vintage miniature chest of drawers

It started with this wonderful little chest of drawers. It’s only 10 centimetres tall so should fit in any room! The drawers are ideal for jewellery or sewing accessories.

Then we came across this metal money box in the form of a safe. It’s appropriately called the “Midget” bank safe. We love the dial mechanism to open the door to retrieve the hard saved loot!

vintage miniature set of garden tools

This fabulous set of vintage garden tools has real age – possibly Edwardian. They’re either a child’s set of tools – or intended for genteel pottering in the conservatory or window box. They’re beautifully made with both wood & painted metal having a wonderful patina.

red vintage miniature tractor

And finally, some miniature heavy machinery! This gorgeous red tractor dates from the 1950s and was made by Dinky. These vintage die cast models are a very specialised area of collecting with prices to match. We don’t normally enter this world, but we found this lovely example at a local market, so the outlay was more reasonable. Four very different items with one thing in common – small is beautiful!

Antique miniature pine table | H is for Home

Amongst the items we sourced this week was a very quirky piece. It’s a rustic Victorian pine kitchen table… but with a difference – it measures a mere 24 inches long & 8 inches high!

It’s a lovely period piece dating from the 19th century, beautifully made with turned legs and jointing – the wood having a wonderful, aged patina.

We think it could possibly be an apprentice piece – the young craftsman displaying his skills before tackling a full-scale piece. We’ve seen miniature cabinets & chests before, but never a table.

It’s lovely just to look at… but we’ve been trying to think of possible uses. A children’s or dolls’ tea party springs to mind. It would look great with one of those vintage miniature tea sets.

It’s the perfect size for a breakfast tray…

…or tea ceremony. It could also function as a storage or display surface.

Anyway, if anyone has got the perfect use for it, we’ve just put it on the H is for Home website – it’s in the kitchen department. You won’t need a lot of space to give it a good home!
