What’s not to love about this retro pastel kitchen diner? The sugared almond colours bring the space to life. Although candy pink is the dominant colour, the addition of chalky lemon, mint and white prevent it looking overly ‘girly’.

At first glance, the classic, mid-century look appears as though it would have been very expensive to achieve. With a bit of time, creativity and planning, you can create a lovely interior like this for less than you think.

The dining chairs are from Homebase and cost £100 per pair. A single Ercol Originals dining chair is over £300. Similarly, the Tulip table is a replica, a Knoll original will set you back almost $6,000.

Get their look: Pastel sitting room

I’m not great at conscientiously posting a daily photo to #Myhousethismonth on Instagram, but I do like to see other people’s efforts. That’s where I discovered this lovely pastel sitting room.

The trio of pink, green and yellow shades is very appealing to the eye. It makes for a restful environment. The bespoke artwork on the wall above the sofa blends perfectly with the furniture and accessories, again using the same colour combination. The metallic elements in the tables, vases, lamp and shade bring it all together and contrast nicely against the soft furnishings.

Home Tones: Sugared almonds

What colours do you think of when someone says to you, “sugared almonds”? They’re colours that were very popular in mid century modern interiors and with the recent revival of that era’s designs, their colours too are making a comeback. Soft pinks, blues, mauve, yellow and greens – all in various combinations. Some people may refer to them as ‘pastels’ or ‘chalky’ à la Annie Sloan. It’s not quite right for our home and décor, but we do think it can look lovely in the right setting.
