Cherry red is a pinkish red with a tinge of black, giving it a deep intensity. It looks amazing with greys and leafy greens. You generally see it as a punchy impact or highlight colour – the red Aga cooker combined with dove grey cabinets is a favourite. Using the colour as an eye-catching feature on sofas, benches, chairs and doors is very successful. However, there’s always an exception to the rule – the floor to ceiling, wall to wall expanse of mosaic tiles works really well in the bathroom space featured below.

Home Tones: Christmas Red & Green

Many of us have heard the sayings, “Red & green should never be seen without a colour in between” and “Red & green should only be seen upon an Irish queen”. We generally concur with this regarding interior decoration… except at Christmastime of course, when these two colours come into their own. This traditional pairing somehow captures the mood of the festive season. From Santa’s outfit to berry-laden holly, fir trees, poinsettia, candy canes, pretty packages, candles, baubles and trimmings… and not forgetting the robin red-breast.
Home Tones: Post Box Red
This week’s Home Tone is post box red, otherwise known as Royal Mail Red, ref no. 538 BS381C – what a classic! It’s not just reserved for post boxes though. As you can see from our selection of interiors images, it makes a real impact on walls, ceilings, doors, appliances, textiles and furniture. It would probably feel a bit oppressive if overused, but a very successful highlight or feature colour.
Isis radio
We couldn’t resist this radio at the local flea market.
Condition isn’t quite as mint as we like, but it’s such a classic design – and the imperfections are just honest wear & tear to the shiny front surface as opposed to drastic damage from being dropped or chewed by a dog! The radio is actually working fine and it still displays well. In fact, we’ve become quite attached to it sitting on our lounge shelves (where many items find a temporary home).
They were manufactured by a company called ISIS – who also made those lovely clocks in the shape of the word CLOCK.
We’re not short of radios in the house, so having shared a wonderful few weeks together, we’re saying goodbye. It’s part of today’s additions to our antiques centre space. We divide our stock between the virtual world and the real world- so pop into the centre if you’re ever near Todmorden. You’ll find lots of similar vintage loveliness!
