Auction Alert: Get An Unusual Gift For Christmas

Original Royal Doulton "The Beatles" toby jugs

All the big stores have now launched their TV Christmas ads, so I guess it’s time for us to start thinking about embarking on our Christmas shopping. ‘Get An Unusual Gift For Christmas’ is the tag line of this week’s timed auction; lots end on Sunday 26th November 2023 from 7pm.

Smile Scotland is an auction house with a difference. It’s a registered charity doing good in its local community and beyond:

At Smile Scotland we are passionate about supporting people into employment that find that challenging to do on their own. We’ve been doing this really successfully since 2014, supporting over 1500 people!

We will empower people in Scotland with the skills, knowledge, confidence and experience to overcome the barriers that they face when getting into, or sustaining employment. We are doing this in order that they can avoid living in poverty and can sustain positive mental and physical health and well-being. Through education and training, discriminating factors such as mental ill-health; physical ill-health and disability; additional learning and support needs; criminal backgrounds; and homelessness will be overcome.

Auction alert: Contents of an HNW executive home

Contents of music room

This week, we’re featuring a fairly unique sale. It’s the entire contents of an HNW executive home – to include designer furniture, lighting, cinema, gym, snooker table, garden furniture & more. It takes the format of a timed auction, that ends from: 28th September 2023, 1pm.

As the ‘Through the Keyhole‘ catchphrase goes, “Who would live in a house like this?”. I had to Google the term, ‘HNW’; it’s short for ‘High Net Worth’. I’d guess at the owner being a premiership footballer, international pop star, London banker, Oligarch or member of the Saudi Royal Family. It’s the kind of home that would grace the centre spread of Hello or OK Magazine.

Anyhow, the top-end fixtures & furnishings are being sold off, room by room. If you’ve just bought yourself a new mansion, you could furnish it in one fell swoop. But don’t expect to get anything dirt cheap – most of the 95 lots already have hefty bids on them – but none have even reached the reserve prices.

I’m shocked at the slushy drinks machine; bidding is already up to £600 (a figure that’s still below the reserve). How much does one of those cost brand new?

On top of the winning bid amount, there’s a buyer’s premium of 20% (not including VAT). The auction is to be held in North London – therefore, you need to ensure that you can get there to collect if you are a winning bidder, and have the knowledge and capacity to break down and carry away your purchases if necessary:

Collection is strictly by appointment. You must book your time slot to collect. It is the buyer’s responsibility to arrange for decommission, dismantling, removal and loading of items within the timescale specified. We do not offer a Delivery or Decommissioning service unless it is specifically stated in the individual lot description

Auction alert: Classic Car, Motorbike & Prestige auction

Fiat 500L

The Classic Car, Motorbike & Prestige auction takes place on Saturday 17th September 2022 from 11am. There’ll be 172 lots – to include cars, trucks, motorbikes and bicycles.

I don’t claim to be a classic or vintage vehicle connoisseur; however, there are certain old cars and bicycles that conjure up memories from my childhood. For instance, I know that my dad – in his bachelor days – used to drive an MGB. Also, there’s an old photo of me at the age of about 6 or 7 (mid-1970s) sitting on the  bonnet of our family car… a pale coloured Ford Cortina Delux. A few years later, when I was in my early teens, I learned to drive… in a canary yellow Austin Mini Moke. All these cars (not the actual ones we owned!) will be in this sale.

Some of my other favourite vintage vehicles are featured – including a Morris Traveller… all that beautiful wood trim. And who wouldn’t love their very own ice cream van?!

You can bid online on the WB & Sons website, i-bidder or The Saleroom. Don’t forget to check any fees for this service. If you choose the first option:

As a buyer you will pay 7.5% +VAT buyers fees onto of the hammer price of any lot you win. For example if you win a lot at £10,000 on the hammer you will pay £750 plus £150 VAT coming to £10,900 in total.

Want your vehicle delivered?
