Price Points: Metal garden benches

We keep getting little glimpses of the summer to come – and then the cold and rain returns to remind us to be patient. We’ve spent a fair amount of time in the garden already this year – clearing, pruning, planting and generally pottering. We’ve even had the opportunity to have a couple of al fresco meals and cups of coffee.

There are a few favourite spots where we often pause – to just enjoy the experience of being outdoors; one is the bench outside the front door. A feature of living where we live is the amount of rain and damp weather we have to contend with – the wooden slats on our garden furniture doesn’t like it one bit.

When the time comes, we’ll be replacing them with metal garden benches. These three are among the ones that have caught my fancy. The yellow one exactly matches the colour of our doors and windows. The shade of green of the mid-priced one looks great in any garden, and the curvaceous shape looks like it would be a very comfortable seat. The antique version has weathered at least a hundred years of being outdoors, I’m sure it could withstand our Welsh climate,

Anyone after some vintage leather club chairs? We picked this pair up last week and they’ve just gone into our shop space.

When we bought them they looked very tired, dry and dusty. So we had a TLC day applying leather cream and wood wax – and also tacked and glued some small rips and loose Hessian lining. We’ve put a bit of warmth and colour into them. The patina will continue to improve with continued handling (rubbing your hands along the arms as you sit in front of a wood-burner with a glass of wine always helps!).

They’re very comfortable indeed, so sitting in front of a fire with a glass of wine shouldn’t be too much of a chore. They’re available to collect from here in Todmorden – they’re priced at £795 the pair. Any questions, just drop us a line.

Price Points: Quilted seating

Quilted homewares are nothing new. There have a long history of (mainly) women – around the world – getting together to sew, share and support each other as they create magnificent works of art.

Recently, we’ve been noticing a big resurgence in quilted soft furnishings; this time, it’s no longer confined to blankets, bedspreads and throws. Quilted seating is offering up a twist on the classics with all new patterns, colours and materials.

Quilted chairs and sofas are so tactile and inviting – sitting or reclining on one is like getting a big warm hug!
