vintage homewares

Here’s a selection of recent buys.

Close up of 'Tina' vintage print by J. H. Lynch

Ladies first, of course – a lovely vintage framed print of ‘Tina’ by J H Lynch. This one’s a very nice copy with original green hessian border.

Two white vintage Herbert Terry designed desk lamps

Two lamps by Herbert Terry & Sons next. The older of the pair, a classic Anglepoise, has the stepped base which is much sought after. It has obvious signs of wear, but we like this finish. Not battered, but loved & used. The other goose-necked lamp dates from the 1960s – we’ve not actually had this model before, but it’s a nice design – perfect for desk or bedside.

large vintage Bitossi bowl in blue, yellow and green

This Bitossi bowl is very attractive. We love the incised and stamped decoration and bold colours – very boho vintage!

Vintage blue and pink art glass vase

More handmade decoration with this glass vase with blue glass trailed over the pink marbled glass. It’s like a boiled sweet and very tactile. There’s an etched makers mark for Mdina glass to the base.

set of blue spotted Worcester Ware place mats

Finally, some vintage place mats. We’ve had this op-art like circle pattern in various shades and mat sizes over the years. They’re very eye-catching and always prove popular.

Selection of vintage purchases from November 2015

As always, the various pieces will be divided between our web shop and antiques centre space. Get in touch if you see anything that takes your fancy.

Worcester Ware tins

set of 3 vintage Worcester Ware storage tins with floral pattern

We treated ourselves to some new kitchen tins this week. Actually bought for us – intentionally bought with a specific purpose in mind – not stock that we’ve commandeered or filtered off to live with for a while!!

These gorgeous 1960s tins with stylised flowers are our new tea, coffee & sugar receptacles.

They were made by Worcester Ware – another example of the lovely vintage metal ware that this company produced.

We can now decant all our ugly refill packets into these pretty tins.

We think the colours work well with others in the kitchen – slate, beech wood, cream cupboards & sink – and of course, bright orange walls.

It’s getting harder to find nice vintage bedding – particularly unused. So we were very pleased to find these two 1960s floral sets – one in shades of orange, one blue. Each double bed set comprises top sheet, bottom sheet and pair of pillowcases.

This gorgeous biscuit jar was designed by Anita Nylund in the 1960s – this hand painted range for Jie Gantofta has such a distinctive look. You can also get tea, coffee, sugar, salt, rice, dried fruit and so on. We’ve even seen a jar for fish!

This zingy orange filing tray will certainly brighten up a dull office – but perhaps not a dull tax return!

orange plastic, 3-tier office filing tray

We love these vintage first aid cabinets – we’ve got a small one in our bathroom which contains the emergency items. When we say emergency we’re stretching things a bit – plasters, bandages, scissors & Savlon more like!!

This metal one is huge though – it could fit your entire toiletry needs. It dates from the 1920s/30s sort of era. The WRCC stands for West Riding County Council.

Another great item from Worcester Ware next. We mention them quite often, but they produced some lovely metalware. This rice tin dates from the 1950s and features agricultural workers from around the world – tea pickers, rice growers, coffee harvesters etc.

Alongside the tin is this small pottery tureen. It’s from the Wasa range produced by Rorstrand Pottery – we don’t think we’ve ever had any of this before. We love the pattern’s simplicity & colours.

We’ll spread the items out between our webshop & antiques centre pitch – let us know if you’re interested in something, but can’t find it.
