The very stylish Kobenstyle

We bought this gorgeous vintage chilli red enamel pan this week. It’s from the Kobenstyle range designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs.

It was one object from a very colourful array picked up at a local flea market. We like them all, but the casserole has to be our favourite. We’ve always loved this design – it’s both practical and great to look at. The pans are hard-wearing and easy to manipulate & move around. The lid can also be turned upside down to act as a trivet for the hot pan. It’s an absolute kitchen classic!

This particular stamp (‘four duck’ logo & ‘Denmark’) means that the pan was produced in Denmark somewhere between 1959 & 1965. Later pieces were produced in France and Japan. It was out of production for quite a while, but the range has been re-issued and is now produced in Thailand.

So – a design we love, a sought after early example, great condition, amazing colour. This has all the hallmarks of a keeper! But no, stop the press, it’s for sale. The chilli red actually clashes with our orange kitchen scheme, so we’re going to let it go. It will absolutely perfect for someone out there. Available in our web shop now if that person is you!

Orange vintage Siltal saucepan

We picked up this very striking orange vintage saucepan during the week. It’s mid-century modern combined with ancient Egypt!

The range was manufactured by Italian company, Siltal in the 1970s for food writer and chef Robert Carrier. He was a big name in the cookery world around this time – perhaps you remember him on TV. If not, you might very well have come across his vintage cookery books and recipe cards in charity shops.

Mid-century modern treatment of more ancient life or art can be very successful – Roman, Etruscan and medieval subjects spring to mind. Egyptian imagery is a new one to us.

This Siltal saucepan itself is beautifully made – quite reminiscent of Cathrineholm in materials and style. Siltal is still manufacturing products today, although they seem to concentrate on fridge-freezers and washing machines nowadays. So you’ll have to look out for vintage examples if you like the look. The pans were made in a variety of colourways – and there were also ancient Greek and Chinese ranges too. This large lidded example will be going into our antiques centre space priced at £45. It’s pretty heavy, but we could post out if required.

You are my Sunshine!

We bought this yellow Cathrineholm kettle with a view to it going into our webshop, but as soon as Adelle saw it emerge from its brown paper packaging, she went all Gollum from Lord of the Rings on us. “Come to me, my precious!”, she exclaimed. The chances of it ever being re-sold slid away rapidly as the golden enamel glow filled her eyes!

It was added to our shelves of vintage Scandinavian loveliness – high up so it couldn’t easily be removed!

Another design we’ve been waiting to get hold of for a while is this Op Art crockery by Seltmann Weiden. We had it in stock previously and sold it all. This time we’ll sell some, but keep a piece or two. By coincidence, they appeared in the same week. They work very well together don’t they? The perfect combination for a bright and cheery afternoon tea we think.

Valentine enamel sign

This is our favourite item of the week.

We don’t think we’ve nominated an enamel sign previously.

It’s a vintage French sign advertising Valentine paints. We like the colours and absolutely love the graphic design.

We put it in a vintage industrial corner of the lounge to photograph it – oh no, it looks quite good!
