I’m a sucker for bright interiors, so this rainbow bedroom really grabbed my attention when I saw it on Instagram.

After scrolling through the rest of Gill’s squares, it slowly dawned on me that we’d already featured her lovely, colourful home on our Get their look series. What can I say? I’m obviously a big fan!

This colourful home belongs to Sarah Stieber. She’s a painter, jewellery designer and tape artist – go take a look – her work is really impressive stuff!

The interior of her home is an extension of her practice – it’s a 3D work of art. The way she works with colour is amazing; as she explained in an interview with Apartment Therapy:

Many people suggest choosing a palette of two colors and sticking with it throughout the space. I agree that having a palette can keep the space cohesive, but you don’t need to limit yourself to just two colors! Rather than choosing just orange and turquoise for my living room, I selected secondary colors that jive with those two main hues.

It’s not just colour, it’s pattern too. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a floor designed to look like the bottom of a swimming pool!

Get their look: Broken-plan living space

We used to publish a weekly blog post entitled Tuesday Huesday and this broken-plan living space pictured above would have been a perfect candidate for that feature.

The owners have used different shades of blue on the walls. There’s hot pink on the floor, at the window, on a dining chair, cushion and painted on the radiator. There’s yellow and there’s orange… and the colours all clash perfectly!

It’s the first time that I’ve come across the term ‘broken-plan’, but I guess that it means open-plan but with large openings into each ‘zone’. There are no doors or hallways, just load-bearing vertical bits of wall between kitcken, dining room and snug.

A space where you can peel off wet clothes & outdoor footwear and towel down a muddy dog before you enter the house properly is a really useful area. This rustic boot room is more than up to that job!

The walls and splash-back are painted in an easy-to-clean brilliant white eggshell. The sink is an up-cycled farm animal drinking trough; and is the perfect size for home-owner, Emma to give her border terrier, Sadie a quick bath. The sink stand and counter top are also made from re-purposed materials – old scaffolding boards.

Nosy chicken is optional!
