You’ve most likely spent more time in your home this past year during lockdown than you ever did before. But did you give much thought to how you can add a bit more of your personality into your home décor? You want your house to feel cosy and welcoming when you return, but also for it to look and feel as though it’s yours. So here are some ideas on what you can do to inject a bit of personality into your home.
Go shopping for antiques
You’ll be surprised at the unique items you can find when you go antique shopping. This will provide you with the opportunity to buy accessories for your home that you wouldn’t find in a typical homeware store. It can also be a fun experience not knowing what you might stumble across on your journey.
Create your own wall art
You don’t need to be an art mastermind to have a go at splashing around some paint on a canvas. Instead of buying some wall art, why not create your own with a blank canvas and some paints. It will allow you to be as creative as you like whilst also providing something unique to hang on your wall.
Change your kitchen accessories
If you looked into popular kitchen trends during lockdown but didn’t get around to starting any projects, why not start now, if you have both the financial resources and the time? It doesn’t need to be a complete renovation project, you could start by upgrading your kitchen cupboard doors or changing the drawer pulls and door handles. Small things like this can already make a positive difference and freshen up the look.
Add some personalised photos
Nothing quite says home without having a scattering of photos placed around your rooms depicting your favourite memories. Look through your photo albums and scroll through your phone to see what wonderful memories you could get printed and placed into photo frames.
Upcycle your furniture
You might have some bits of furniture stored away in the loft or garage that are still in relatively good condition but you don’t currently use. Instead of discarding it, why not try upcycling it instead to create a different piece of furniture that you could use. It will be much kinder to the environment and you would also be creating an item of furniture that nobody else would have.
Grow your own indoor plants
You could try growing your own indoor houseplants to brighten up the rooms a little but also provide a lovely natural fragrance. It will give you a project to do as well by watching them steadily grow into blossoming plants. They’ll also inject some personality into the room which is exactly what you want!
