Pubs, clubs and other social venues are beginning to reopen; life is feeling a little more normal again. Many of us over the past year and a bit have shifted our home life to compensate. Perhaps creating an outdoor barbecue kitchen or an indoor home cocktail bar such as this one.

For those of us not comfortable going back to busy pubs just yet, a cocktail bar at home isn’t hard to create. Start by getting a bar cart that suits your décor – Art Deco fabulous, vintage Tiki vibe, Mad Men mid-century… you get the drift.

Stock your cart with your favourite tipples – Aromatic gins, single malt whiskies, bottles of bone dry fizz… And don’t forget your selection of mixers – miniature bottles or cans of tonic, soda, juices.

Next, are all your tools & accessories – glassware, ice bucket & tongs, shaker, squeezer, strainer, muddler, stirrers, straws… I feel a cocktail party coming on! What’s your poison?

Review: Crozier Drinks

Crozier Drinks is a brand new company, launching only last week. They offer a home delivery service of pre-mixed, luxury cocktails using the best-quality fresh ingredients. You can make one off purchases or set up a regular subscription. It makes a lovely treat for yourself or an amazing gift for someone else.

All the packaging is recyclable – we’ve kept the box to send items sold on our web shop and the inner cardboard filler has gone on to our compost heap. The very nice aluminium bottle is totally re-usable for storing & carrying other liquids – or displaying a few cut flowers, perhaps.

We opted to try the Mango Lime & Cayenne Pepper Margarita. The beautifully labelled bottle contains gold tequila, mango juice, lime juice, sugar syrup and cayenne pepper – suitable for vegetarians and vegans. This mixture 14% ABV.

Some of the other mixes in their range include marmalade & ginger daiquiri, kiwi & lime mojito, bakewell sour and apple pie martini.

The margarita is very quaffable; the delicious fruitiness of the sweet mango is balanced with a tangy sourness of lime. The cayenne pepper adds a depth of flavour & spicy warmth. Truly delicious!!

Included in the package is an info sheet containing useful garnish ideas and serving suggestions for their whole range of cocktails.

Each Crozier Drinks bottle holds a 500ml amount of cocktail. The number of cocktails you get will depend on the size of your glass. Somewhere between two and four… or one whopping big one if you’re feeling particularly thirsty!!

Recipes in the frame

We’ve got three of these original 1960s recipe artworks heading for the web shop this week. Aren’t they fabulous?

Each one has a recipe for a cocktail or dessert incorporated into a wonderful hand-decorated art illustration.

They’re the work of ‘Pati’ who produced them for Soovia Janis Inc of New York. They’re just three of a very large series of works. You’d do very well to track them all down. If you’re a complete-ist who can’t stand not having an entire set of something, tread carefully before you embark on collecting these… it might be a life-long quest!

It might be worth it though as they’re so gorgeous. Imagine a wall full of these – what a riot of colour and swirls. Most people will make do with a smaller collection – or a single picture for that perfect spot in the kitchen, bar or dining area. Your choice might come down to which colour design suited your existing décor… or a favourite cocktail maybe. In fact, a whole row of cocktail recipes along a bar would look great… no stop, now we’re mentally making a collection. They’re supposed to be for sale. We haven’t got a bar anyway!

Each has their original painted wooden frames and labels to reverse – and measure 42cm x 22cm. They’ll be listed in the web shop soon. However, if you want first dibs as a reader of our blog, just send us a message. They’re £55 each or £140 for the three.
