Founded in 1993, the auction house, Mellors & Kirk is based in Nottingham. Their Antiques & Collectors Sale, including The Heath House, Staffordshire is being held in about a week’s time. The 3-day sale dates are as follows:

We do not post fragile items, such as ceramics and glassware, or large items, however we may be able to assist with the packing and postage of small items of jewellery, watches, medals, small pieces of silver, etc. Please contact us for a quotation.

Commission on the hammer price realised for the lot in question is payable to Mellors & Kirk by the buyer at a flat rate of 24% plus VAT, subject to a minimum of £6 per lot plus VAT.

This week’s Auction Alert – Spring Auction Week – takes place at the Rostrum Fine Art Auctioneers. There are 1,610 lots over the 4-day sale, from 29th March – 1st April 2022 from 10:30am each morning.

The great thing about this particular auction location is the fact that if you have a big gap between lots that you’re interested in, you can grab a drink or bite to eat… and so much more!

On site there is a restaurant and coffee shop, a farm shop and delicatessen with much local Norfolk produce, a garden centre and much more that could make a visit just that bit more interesting. Various other businesses are also based on the site that provide consumer services.

c 1975. Rare as Unopened. Produced for Peter Thompson (Perth) Ltd by Wade, Ireland. Based on 16th Century historical characters of the Royal houses of England (The Rose) and Scotland (The Thistle). All the pieces, except the pawns, were filled with Beneagles Scotch 70% Whisky. It is very rare to find pieces with the seals unbroken and still with whisky in. Research shows to find a complete set with all seals is unheard of. Unboxed.
White pieces as follows: Pawns decorated with English Roses, Rooks formed as a Norman English Tower, Knights as Sir Francis Drake, Bishops as Thomas a Becket, Queen Elizabeth I, King Henry VIII

The historic house (1650) where the post box was found by the vendor was previously owned by Suckling Nelson, Horatio’s younger brother, who, having served his apprenticeship as a draper, bought it to live in and run as a Drapers Shop. Letters between the several Nelson brothers record that Horatio rode his horse from Burnham Thorpe to collect a bolt of cloth ordered from their draper brother to be made into a suit for an elder brother by the family’s tailor.

This week’s featured auction is the 20th Century and Modern Interior Design sale taking place at Burstow & Hewett in Battle, East Sussex. 134 lots will go under the hammer on Thursday 27th January 2022 from 10am.

It’s not very often that I look at an auction catalogue and like so many of the lots. It’s like a mid-century modern lover’s idea of heaven! Quality vintage furniture, art glass and rare fabrics.

Leaving live bids via their website incurs a 24% (inc. VAT) commission fee. You may also bid via Easyliveauction where you’ll pay either a 3.6% (inc. Auction alert: 20th Century Art & Design at Stouts Hill House

Large Batman stage prop, 'Ka-pow'

This week, we’re drawing your attention to the 20th Century Art & Design at Stouts Hill House, Uley sale. It will take place at Wotton Auction Rooms, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, just north of Bristol. 230 lots will be going under the hammer on Saturday 6th November, starting at 12pm.

There’s an interesting mix of stuff – vintage film and music posters, art glass, mid-century modern furniture, lighting and original artworks. There’s even a piece by Rosslyn Ruiz whose work we have admired and owned.

There’s an inclusive buyers’ premium of 21.6% which is payable by all buyers, whether in the room, bidding by phone or leaving commission bids on the book. An additional premium of 3.6% + VAT of the hammer price is payable on all lots purchased via on-line bidding on the Wotton Auction Rooms website. However, if you choose to bid via the EasyLiveAuction site, there’s a £3.00 flat fee to bid.

They don’t currently offer any in-house P&P, so you’ll have to organise your own courier service for delivery.
