Auction alert: Fine Art & Antique Auction

Set of six 1960s Ercol blonde elm & beech wood kitchen chairs

Are you a BBC 6Music listener? Strange question to come out with? The reason I ask something like that on this Auction Alert post, is because 6Music DJs all play music that is an ‘eclectic mix’… and so are the lots in the sale we’re featuring this week. Furniture, jewellery, paintings, textiles, clocks and books are just a few of the types of items on offer.

Trevanion & Dean Auctioneers based in Whitchurch, Shropshire are holding one of their regular 2-day, Fine Art & Antique Auction sales. It takes place on Wednesday 22nd & Thursday 23rd September 2021 from 9am.

There’ll be a buyer’s commission charge of 20% + VAT. If you plan on bidding online, you can bid live through their website here for a further 2% + VAT. They also offer live, online bidding through the-saleroom.com and easyliveauctions.com, please note, bidding on these platforms also incurs additional charges.

If you wish to bid remotely and have any winning lot(s) delivered to you, the auction house explains:

If you are unable to collect your winning lots, Trevanion Auctioneers offer a limited in-house P&P service for small, non-breakable items during the week following the auction only. We use Royal Mail Special Delivery for goods up to a value of £2000 weighing no more than 2kg. We also use DHL but goods will not be covered by insurance unless requested.

vintage Ercol sofa for sale on eBay for Charity in support of St Luke's Cheshire Hospice
(Ends 17 May, 2013 19:22:43 BST)

A vintage Ercol sofa is at or near the top of many a mid century modern fan’s furniture wish list. This one’s being sold by St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice*. It needs new cushion covers and one of its legs is slightly damaged, but its webbing looks to be in great nick… and with a starting bid of £49.99, it’s still a bargain! It’s offered as a “collection only” item from their warehouse in Winsford, Cheshire.

*St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice provides palliative and specialist palliative care to those adult patients with life threatening or life limiting disease. The emphasis of care is on the promotion of dignity and quality of life for patients, and support for family and friends during and after the illness. Care may be as an outpatient attending Hospice Day Care, Complementary Therapy Clinic or Lymphoedema Clinic or inpatient admitted for symptom control, health assessment or terminal care.

vintage boxed set of Sherdley 'Chubbies' drinking glasses

Getting hold of vintage items boxed & unused is always a bonus – this was the case with these fabulous 1950s drinking glasses.

We love the stylised leaf decoration – very typical of the era. As is the red, yellow & blue colourway.

vintage hand crocheted woollen throws and wire atomic coat hooks

More classic 1950s in the shape of this ‘atomic’ coat rack with its wooden ball finials. Red & yellow again!!

We can’t even begin to list the colours in the crocheted work – it’s a case of ‘the more the merrier’ when it comes to these vintage bedspreads & blankets.

detailed view of red vintage woollen blanket

We’ve definitely moved into the 1960s or 70s with this amazing blanket with its bold, organic design in black & red. It’s warm & cosy too – perfect camper van material!

vintage Binatone clock radio alarm

We can link via colour again for this alarm clock radio – the red & black of the LED digital display this time. It was produced by Binatone in the late 1970s.

selection of vintage Kathie Winkle crockery

On a recent fleamarket trip we came across this large collection of pottery on one stall. It was all designed by Kathie Winkle for Broadhurst Pottery in the 1960s.

The Mardi Gras range is a particular favourite of ours, but the various patterns look great mixed & matched together.

vintage Ercol beechwood rocking chair

Finally we move onto this lovely Ercol rocking chair with its original green striped cushions. We were very happy with this purchase!

It’s found a happy home by the kitchen window for the time being. It gets lovely late afternoon sun and is the perfect place to enjoy a cup of tea – well deserved after a hard days work of course!
