Cork is considered by many to be a real 1970s material. It brings to mind orange & brown interiors sporting DIY-laid cork tiles – on floors, on ceilings on walls… but we love it.

Cork has had something of a renaissance of late; the range of products proving that it’s not just good for notice boards. It’s soft, warm, tactile, durable, waterproof and a sound dampener. What’s not to love?

The second series of Penny Dreadful started last week on Sky Atlantic – we’re avid viewers!

We’ve been hugely impressed by its wonderful, award-winning period costume and set design; the attention to detail of both the interior and exterior scenes. The fantastic oil lamp-lit Gothic interiors are inspiring – the light flickering against dark walls and furniture. Rooms furnished with leather Chesterfield sofas, gilt-framed oil paintings, brass candelabra and mahogany dining tables.

We’ve found a couple of great videos giving details of how many of the sets were devised, developed & built – a wonderful insight!

Who doesn’t love florals? Whether they’re big & blousey, delicate or sophisticated, there’s a pattern to suit everyone’s taste.

Flowers are famous in art & design; just think of Georgia O’Keeffe’s lilies, Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s rose, Claud Monet’s water lillies, Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflowers.

Flowers punctuate life; each year begins with milky white snowdrops before traversing into drifts of crocuses, daffodils, dandelions, bluebells, foxgloves, poppies and buddleia… before it starts all over again. Blooming marvellous!
