Etsy List: Dream Stationery

As a child of the 70s, I remember being part of that great stationery collecting craze. I vividly remember having Garfield, Holly Hobbie and ‘Love Is…‘ note pads in my stash of paper, envelopes and cards. For a while, everyone at school collected and traded scratch & sniff stickers and erasers.

Way back then, I used to write actual letters; I had pen-pals half way across the world. I wrote thank you notes – with a real pen… on actual paper – to grandparents and other family members for birthday and Christmas presents I’d received.

This Etsy List contains paper items that are somewhat more mature and refined… but still with a sense of fun. These days, I use stationery for business, to plan my year, write lists, take messages and just to be able to remember things from one minute to the next – the memory isn’t what it used to be!

The US has some crazy ‘National Days’. Last month saw National Get Over It Day, National Earmuff Day and National Everything You Think is Wrong Day.

But I’m claiming today’s National Garlic Day for the rest of the world! Garlic enhances food… no, it enhances life! It tastes great and is good for your health too.

The UK is a nation of garlic lovers; we have an annual Garlic Festival in August down in the Isle of Wight where there’s a long tradition of growing the aromatic bulb.

Later on today I’ll be make a batch of wild garlic butter – we have a small patch of ramsons behind our house that is ready to pick!

I could never get my head round geometry when I was at school. Pythagoras, pi, trigonometry, algebra, calculus, equations… it’s all Greek to me! 🙂

I loved all the tools in the Helix Oxford maths set that my parents had to buy me; the divider, protractor, set square and compass. I made lots of pretty drawings, but perhaps I should have been spending the time actually listening to the teacher instead!

Nevertheless, I might not understand any of it, but I can still admire the forms and patterns, shapes and angles that are created!

'On the map' Etsy List curated by H is for Home

Maps have been around for millennia and will continue to be so – sat-navs will never wipe them out!

Antique and vintage maps are so interesting; the way borders flux & change and entire countries come & go. History and geography were two of my favourite subjects at school and that’s just what maps are all about.

We’ve curated this list to share some beautiful old maps and to show some great ways they’ve been upcycled; origami fairy lights to decoupaged picnic sets. We’ve included some brand new maps as well; laser-cut table lamps, educational wall murals for children and even a door mat!
