She and her family have lived in their home for over 20 years, and the interior has seen many different incarnations. The current style is, “Dark Gothic Glam”.

It’s the equinox, and the day began – as if there was an obligation that needed to be fulfilled – with a chill in the air. That late summer spell we’ve been enjoying seems to be over.

This autumnal vintage sitting room feels like a perfectly accurate representation of this time of year; the colours and the lengthening shadows. Don’t get me wrong, although I’m always sorry to see the back of summer, I love this time of year too. There’s bountiful foraging to be had in the countryside, deciduous trees are showing off their golden, seasonal attire and the scent of firewood is in the air.

We’re really taken by this turquoise guest bathroom; the way the high-gloss tiles have been laid in a herringbone pattern and the use of an unusual, contrasting terracotta coloured grout.

The turquoise tiles work as a perfect backdrop to the gold coloured metalware… Even Mac & Maxwell’s handsome cat is matching the décor with his amber eyes and name tag on his collar.

We don’t have a room for this week’s Get their look; rather, it’s a beautiful monochrome vignette.

The composition is very striking visually, and something that you can create yourself with a little thought and planning. If decorating an entire room feels too challenging or budget-busting, a vignette or 3-dimensional still life like this one can be a simple and affordable alternative.

Begin by devising a simple mood board; play around with palette, texture etc. Decide on the theme or style that you want to create.

Enclosing this monochrome vignette within shelving frames the arrangement and helps draw attention to it. A transparent glass dome or box would be another excellent choice. You could fill it with found objects from your travels such as shells & pebbles from a beach. Perhaps meaningful items of pottery, glass or metalware could be attractively arranged.
