Today, we’re highlighting the Sneakers: Collector’s & High Fashion sale being held by Vernon Fox Auctions who are based in Folkestone, Kent.

The auction is timed, so lots are for sale online, live right now. The first of which will end from Sunday 6th Feb 2022, 5pm.

I’m a collector of things; vintage handbags, vintage coats, vintage jewellery. So I can appreciate people collect footwear – namely trainers, or as our American friends refer to them, sneakers. Some people are such fanatics that they’re willing to part with eye-watering amounts of cash to get their hands on a particular vintage pair.

There are only 57 lots, but include rare and valuable examples from brands such as Nike, Christian Louboutin, Dolce & Gabbana and DSquared2. The pair featured in the image above – Jordan Unisex 1 Retro High Off-White Trainers – already have a bid of £2,200.00 on them.

The buyer’s premium stands at 20% of the hammer price ex. VAT. If bidding via The Saleroom website, the charge incurred will be 28.80% inc.VAT. Additional charges are 24% ex. VAT if bidding via the i-bidder. Free UK delivery is offered to winning bidders.

Even though the temperatures haven’t been as cool as they should be for this time of year, the evenings are definitely becoming a bit nippy. And we all know that it’s simply a matter of time before the single figure temperatures arrive.

It’s around now that Justin gets all his pairs of long johns out for the season – a season that can last for almost 6 months – he loves wearing them so much!

He first started wearing them back when we lived in Brighton. There was a little army surplus shop that stocked long johns from armies across Europe. He had some army green ones from the British army that were fairly low warmth; they were good for the summer into autumn months. Once we had a dog that needed to be taken out in all weathers, I bought him some Swedish army ones – they’re super warm and provide much needed insulation during Pennine hillside winters!

Dolce & Gabbana blue distressed denim jacket - size 44

This week, we’re bringing your attention to the Designer Fashion: Men’s auction at Chiswick Auctions, London happening on Tuesday 7 September from 10:30am.

If you’re into haute couture but can’t afford the prices, second-hand could be the way to indulge your passion. We regularly pop into high street charity shops, but rarely – if ever – come across designer labels. Buying at specialist auctions like this one is a guaranteed opportunity.

We’ve picked out 10 of the 278 lots that will be coming under the auctioneer’s hammer; menswear items that Justin (and I to a certain extent) would happily don. There are a few outfits that I could see Elton John wearing… I’ve chosen not to highlight any of those ones… however, if that’s your kettle of fish…
