With spring knocking on the door (we’ve noticed a few green shoots popping through the soil), we’ve been thinking about doing up our garden room and greenhouse. We’ve done some initial fixing up and painting, but haven’t really ‘styled’ it as yet.

This gorgeous rustic potting shed is located in central Pennsylvania and is the look we’d be striving to achieve. It’s got all the main elements that we love. Wooden pigeonholes and shelving for tools and seeds; storage baskets and boxes; a big farmhouse sink; tables and benches to work at; somewhere nice to sit.

There are lots of nice details too – garden-related equipment, the large blackboard, pictures & prints – and of course plants. This potting shed has got everything – every time you scan through the photos of the space, you notice something else.

It’s atmospheric yet practical – we could spend hours on end in there, just pottering around.

Kids playroom

Our first idea for a shed conversion is to turn it into a playroom for your children. Give your shed a clean or invest in a nice, new steel building from Armstrong Steel (you can find all you need to know about estimate costs in the linked article) and ask your kids how they want it to be decorated. Get them to choose the toys that they’d like to keep in the playroom and add a toy chest so that you can keep it tidy. Make sure to put down comfortable flooring to ensure that they don’t hurt themselves when they’re playing.

Home cinema

Another great idea for converting your shed is to turn it into a home cinema. All you need to do is invest in a projector and create a white wall on to which you can project your favourite. Scatter some blankets and cushions and you and your kids can spend time together watching movies in your back garden. Make sure to add a snack bar for added effect.

Art studio

If you or your children fancy a bit of art and crafts every now and then, why not turn your shed into an outdoor art studio? You can add some easels, store your paint on shelves on the walls and get to creating some masterpieces. Your kids will love having a place that they can get messy and make some amazing paintings. This way, you won’t have to worry about getting art materials all over your furniture and carpets. Art is important in a child’s development so make sure to include it in their home life.

Quiet room

For those parents who feel they need a place of quiet and calm, you could convert your shed into a quiet room. This can be your meditation space and you can fill it with excellent mood lighting, candles and soft music. You could make it an adults only space or you could encourage your children to spend some quiet time in this room when they need it.

Shed with porch

Homework room

Our final idea for a shed conversion is to turn it into a homework room that can be used by all members of the family. All you need to do is get some good lighting and a few desks and soon you’ll have a fun space for your kids to get their homework done. Homework is boring but having a dedicated space to do it in can turn it into an activity rather than a chore. Make sure to try this out and get creative with your shed!

The benefits of farm storage sheds

The benefits of farm storage sheds | H is for Home

Most home-owners who live in a rural community will understand the need for additional storage units, especially if they live on a farm or carry out farming tasks as a hobby. As time goes by, we tend to gather more and more material in our homes, until eventually, we don’t have enough room left on our premises. We seem to accumulate a surprisingly large number of items that often need to be moved out of our homes and into a storage unit.

Create additional space

One of the main reasons many home-owners in Australia have decided to install storage sheds on their premises is to create additional space in their homes. When you first move into a property, it tends to be bare, only containing a few basic items such as your kitchen table, beds and wardrobes. You’ve yet to step your mark on your home and you’ve plenty of space to store household and garden equipment without feeling too cluttered. But, as the years roll by, your environment starts to change, and you begin to collect more personal belongings. If you aren’t using a lot of this stuff it usually finds its way into a spare room in your house. However, if you have a storage shed installed on your property, you can move all your unused items into this unit and free up some space in your home.

A robust storage shed helps to keep all your clutter out of sight that includes farming equipment and other items. If you are planning on installing a storage shed on your property, there are several first-class companies who specialise in customised sheds in Melbourne and the surrounding area. You can make a list of items that you’ll need in your home and send the remaining objects out to your storage shed, this frees up space while allowing you access to personal items which are stored outside your home.

Protect your vehicles & equipment

Storage sheds can be used for all kinds of reasons, one being to protect your vehicles and machinery. You can purchase a specialised machinery shed that is designed to house any type of industrial equipment. Once properly secured with locks and sensor lights, farm sheds are great for protecting your property.

Each shed is tailor-made to suit your needs, so you’ll have a perfectly sized unit that can protect your machinery from harsh weather conditions and potential thieves. Storage sheds are also great for protecting your car or truck, if you’ve no garage on your property, these units can safely fit your family vehicle inside keeping it protected from hostile weather and burglars.

Keep your home clean

If you spend a lot of time out in the fields tending to cattle or doing other farming tasks, you’ll need a separate space to store your work gear away from your home. The items you use while farming the land or clothing you wear as you work, can’t be stored in your home. It must be left in a storage unit, so it doesn’t damage expensive flooring or other household items.

Most bulky farming or gardening objects collect a lot of dirt and debris, so why would you walk around your home with mucky footwear or grubby equipment? Items such as gardening tools, farming equipment, watering cans and other objects need a storage unit to keep them safe and secure.

Having a robust, storage shed on your farm not only protects your belongings while providing additional storage space; it also helps to increase the value of your home. If you plan on selling your premises in the future, you’ll receive better offers once you’ve installed a custom designed structure which has the capability of standing up to all kinds of environments. Farm sheds offer security, extra storage space and protection for machinery while adding considerable value to your property.

Is your home running short of space?

Small detached house with white picket fence

If your home or holiday home is feeling a bit cramped and you’re thinking about the possibility of moving, then there are a few alternatives that you might want to consider before you go to all of the hassle of viewings, coping with solicitors and all of the problematic processes of a move.

Rather than going to pastures new, have you thought about extending your existing place? There are many different ways to create new space in your current location, if you have the room to do so.

Loft conversion

Loft conversion

This can be a really quick job that creates an extra room if you currently have some loft space that isn’t being used effectively. What feels like a wasted space can easily be converted into a new bedroom or an office.

Conservatory

Conservatory

A conservatory can add a significant amount of space to your property and can been done fairly cheaply. Perfect for enjoying the warmer weather and can really brighten up the entire feel of your downstairs area. Spending time where you are experiencing more daylight even impacts your mood and your well-being.

Outdoor building

If you need some extra space for storage then you could buy a shed for the garden. You can get all kinds of sizes and materials to store the bigger items that are taking up room around the property.

If you’re looking for something bigger for living space, then you could opt for a building to be erected outside if you have enough room. Take a look at some Armstrong Steel reviews for some feedback from customers who have chosen steel buildings to create extra property. They could turn out to be a lot less expensive than you think and could be the perfect option for an office or a living room.

Garage conversion

Blue garage doors

If your household is one of the many that don’t use the garage to park their car in, then you could use the space for something much better. A garage conversion can transform your living space and give you the opportunity to expand your living room, dining room or kitchen area. Or you could simply add plenty of garage shelving and give yourself as much storage as you need, so the rest of your home looks and feels better.

Improve your storage options

Under-sofa storaged drawers

If you have lots of items, maybe toys that are frequently in use, are you storing them wisely? Try to opt for dual purpose storage options; storage boxes that can also be used for seating, when you buy a bed, buy one that has storage drawers built in and look into options for built in wardrobes and cupboards. There are so many inventive ways of creating extra space and if you can get a good joiner, you can create storage space practically anywhere.

If you’re starting to feel that your home is getting too small to live in then take a look at all of the available options and get some quotes for the different possibilities. Moving home can be really stressful and time-consuming, so if you’re already happy with your current location then make the most of the alternative ways to create extra space.
