Yellow is such a sign of springtime – daffodils, celandine, primroses. A wonderful, uplifting splash of colour after a long, dark winter. A promise of the warmth and light of a summer just around the corner.

This cheery, sunny room belongs to the designer, Jane Foster, one of our favourite illustrators. Apparently she was playing host(ess) to a photography team who were doing a shoot for her new book. It all sounds very exciting!
Her photo, with its vase of daffodils standing to attention, reminds me that spring is (hopefully!) just around the corner!

Who’d have thought that an uneven, horizontal stripe around a bedroom wall could look so chic? This ochre bedroom (or would you call it sunflower, saffron, turmeric or amber?) featured in the French edition of Elle Deco magazine looks like an uplifting place to wake up. Simple, uncluttered with a warm splash of colour!

Neither of us here at chez H is for Home can play a musical instrument (although I once learned to play Greensleeves and London’s Burning on the recorder).
This vintage Organetta being sold on eBay by Martlets Hospice* caught our eye because of its great colour. If it’s piqued your interest and you think it would make a good keyboard for your child to learn to play – buyer beware – its volume control doesn’t work… and it’s stuck on full volume!
*The Martlets Hospice is an independent charity, caring for adults with a life limiting disease where a cure is no longer possible, in the Brighton & Hove area. Specialist palliative care is provided for patients. Support is given to families & carers during the patients’ illness and into bereavement.
