With growing concern about the proliferation of single-use plastic being discarded in landfill and the earth’s waterways, each of us should be doing all that we can to reduce this excess. 3-7th September is #zerowasteweek and we’re trying to do our bit. Having zero-waste products for use within the home is a great place to begin.
We’ve lined up three of our favourite items at different points on the price scale. Shamefully, we go through a fair amount of paper towel chez H is for Home so we know that’s one area in which we can improve.
Ditto, investing in a silicone baking mat; I use parchment paper almost every time I bake bread. I do reuse a sheet if it’s not in too bad a state, flipping it over to the other side. A baking mat will last a very, very long time and I know it will get at least weekly use.
The BagPodz is a fab idea, taking strong, easily stored shopping bags to the shops and supermarket. However, I think that at this price you can do a DIY version. I keep about half a dozen light but strong fabric totes folded up in my everyday bag. So, even if I pop to the shops unexpectedly, I never have to resort to buying plastic bags.
