When we moved home in 2019, we replaced all our orange vintage Le Creuset cast iron pans because they wouldn’t suit the colour scheme in our new kitchen. As it turned out, the new, cream-coloured set we bought has proven to chip so easily that they look awful after just a few years’ use. How disappointing!

This week, I noticed this beautiful Habitat Global cast iron ochre cookware being sold at none other than Sainsbury’s. They’re very reasonably priced, at between £21 and £45.

The colour is so eye-catching, I’d love these gracing our kitchen, and they’d go well with our cream-coloured range, fridge-freezer and other small appliances.

This new electric  Esse 1000 S model is absolutely gorgeous – and quite a radical departure from the company’s traditional looking stoves. It’s very sleek and contemporary – almost resembling upmarket, high tech, kitchen units. It might not suit our rustic old cottage, but has to go into our little notebook for possible future homes of ours or perhaps a suggestion for friends.

The build quality and after sales service is always great from this Lancashire-based company, so we’re always happy to recommend them. The model launches later on this year.

I’ve been a fan of Birkenstock sandals for decades. They’re versatile, they can be dressed up or dressed down. They’re available in so many styles and colours for men, women and kids. They were one of the first footwear companies, to my knowledge, that had a range of vegan shoes. Most of all though, they were hard-wearing and comfortable.

This week, I discovered that there’s to be a Jil Sander Birkenstock collaboration – a range of four styles in three colourways. Prices range from £320.00 to £500.00. According to Birkenstock:

The three existing models, now with a wider, rounded and higher profile in black, extend the grounding but sophisticated feel. Its reimagined thinner buckles in precious satin nickel contrast elegantly with straps in raw edged calfskin and suede. Accompanied by neutral black, the warm colour palette of cream and olive underlines the natural look.

As an addition to the collection, the newly designed model Velan, a reinvention of the Berlin closed-toe sandal, with a soft nappa strap to wrap around the ankles, is the ultimate flat strappy sandal for sophisticated world travelers.

Mini Moderns Moordale seed collection

This month saw the launch of the Mini Moderns Moordale seed collection. The assortment comprises 10 varieties of seeds – including cotton grass, bluebells, wild garlic and thrift – inspired by the wild flowers found on the North York Moors. The packets are miniature works of art, featuring the company’s Moordale wallpaper pattern design.

They’d make perfect stocking fillers for both a budding or accomplished gardener or nature lover.
