Vintage T. G. Green 'Fleur' sauce boat

We’re here to sing the praises of a slightly underrated, perhaps little-known, range of pottery.

Vintage T. G. Green 'Fleur' sauce boat

We found this sauce boat on the flea market last week. It’s in the gorgeous Fleur pattern produced by Swedish designer Berit Ternell for T. G. Green & Co Ltd in 1961. There are also plates, casserole dishes, jugs, bottles and storage jars in the range.

We just love the stylised flowers; tulips, cow parsley, sunflowers and dandelions. It’s similar in style to the sought after and recently re-introduced Picknick range by Rorstrand of Sweden.

We’ve noticed that Fleur doesn’t appear for sale too often. It always sells quickly, but prices remain very affordable. It’s a good sign for an underrated classic – so keep your eyes out!

Grandad mug

We spotted this vintage Grandad mug amongst a sea of crockery today. It dates from the 1960s/70s and is very reminiscent of something John Clappison might have designed for Hornsea Pottery. It actually originates from Japan and we’ve seen other pieces from this company – soup bowls etc. We love the graphic interlocking typeface pattern and the soft green colour too.

It’s big enough for a nice cup of tea or milky coffee. Have you got a special Grandpa that deserves a treat? Or someone who’s old before their time and might suit the ironic Grandfather reference?

In Orbit

WOW! How about this for an eye-popping bit of orange Op Art loveliness?

This cup & saucer is from the Orbit range produced by Burleigh in the 1960s. It’s superb and quite uncharacteristic of their usual output which is normally very traditional. Someone must have had a rush of blood to the head (or taken LSD) that week. It’s quite a rare pattern and doesn’t appear for sale often.

It’s a great display piece, and would also provide the perfect pick-me-up start to the day filled with strong coffee. We’ve got a few for sale and they’ll appear in our webshop soon.

Kirkham milk jugs

There’s a distinct risk of double entendre in this post, but the design of these jugs is so striking & photogenic that we had to give them a quick blog mention.

These milk jugs were produced by Kirkham Pottery and we think it’s called the Chef & Stripe range. They’re such classic 1950s – the graphic lettering, the stylised dancing chef & waiters – and the distinctive red, yellow & black colourway.

We’ve just put the larger one in our web shop. It has a bit of wear & crazing, but still displays wonderfully – and is completely usable for milk or cut flowers.
