Vintage furniture highlights on eBay

We currently don't have a 'bricks & mortar' selling space

We currently don’t have a ‘bricks & mortar’ selling space as unfortunately, the antiques centre here in Todmorden had to close down due to unforeseen circumstances. In addition to placing some of the pieces that had been housed there into our own web shop, we’ve decided to sell some of the larger items from our former pitch on eBay… and we’d like to highlight three lovely bits of vintage furniture which have just been listed for auction.

Vintage Ladderax unit with white metal uprights, 3 short teak shelves and cube-shaped glass-fronted cupboard | H is for Home

First up, we have another mid century modern classic – Ladderax. This small unit is a very sweet example. It’s 60cm wide – and has 3 shelves and a glazed cupboard; very simple, compact and stylish. It would suit almost any room – office or lounge,  most likely – however, we could also see it working in a kitchen, bedroom or hallway.

Vintage wicker rocking chair | H is for Home

Next up, we have this fabulous cane rocking chair dating from the 1950s/60s. It’s quite rare to find these metal framed mid century modern ‘atomic’ era chairs in rocking form. And with cane & wicker currently being all the rage in interior design, we’re sure that this piece will appeal to lots of people.

Vintage leather footstool/pouffe

And last, but not least – a leather footstool. It has a lovely, aged patina and the patchwork forms a flower like pattern. It would fit perfectly in any interior scheme, from boho chic to mid century modern. It’s also an ideal piece to to soften the hard edges of a vintage industrial space.

All items are live and available to buy as this post goes live!

selection of vintage furniture and homewares in the H is for Home shop - September 2015

Here are some of our vintage furniture and homeware purchases from this past week.

Original vintage oil painting of a shipyard by J. Jennings

We’ll start with the painting – an original 1960s oil on board. It’s entitled ‘Waterfront’ and features a harbour scene with dock buildings, cranes and lights reflected in the still water.

Cream-coloured vintage Horstmann anglepoise-type desk lamp

Next up, this superb lamp by Hadrill & Horstmann. It has a counterweight mechanism which not only looks great, but works very efficiently too – the perfect design combo. The West German pottery vases & planters always sell well – especially with that distinctive flash of volcanic orange.

Original vintage G-plan footstool with yellow upholstery seat

And more vibrant colour… this G-Plan stool with its original yellow fabric upholstery didn’t take much deciding upon.

It’s a fabulous shape too and went straight into the boot of the car!

Vintage studio pottery lamp base made by Evans in 1976

There are slightly more muted tones in this studio pottery lamp base, but it’s no less attractive.

We’ve got a friend whose studio pottery collection is ever expanding.

She gave an, ‘oooooooh that’s nice!’, when she saw it – and has thus managed to squeeze one more piece into her house!

Gimee Five! Pouffes

selection of 5 pouffes

Our sitting room has undergone a slow but considered transformation in the past few months. We’ve replaced our sofa, armchairs and coffee table (most of which were ruined by flooding). The furniture layout’s been altered… then changed… then changed again… and again.

One piece of furniture we’ve been missing in each arrangement has been a pouffe – or footstool or ottoman if you prefer. I was brought up knowing not to sit or put your feet on tables. As the saying goes, “Tables are for glasses, not for …es.” The coffee table in front of our sofa,  has been seeing far too much heel action!

  1. Scott ottoman: £349, MADE
  2. Moroccan leather pouffe by Bohemia: £135, Notonthehighstreet
  3. Brillo box pouf: $379, Fab
  4. Moroccan leather pouffe: £130-£150, Graham & Green
  5. Kiko stool: from £1,159, Harrods

vintage red and white checked leather footstool being sold in support of Cornwall Hospice Care
(ends 26 Aug, 2013 11:13:43 BST)

This is a striking vintage red & white checked leather footstool being sold in support of Cornwall Hospice Care*.  It has great 1950s styling with its tapered legs and gold-coloured metal feet.

There’s a low starting bid of £4.99 as it’s not in pristine condition. However, with a little elbow grease and leather cream it should come up very nicely.

*Cornwall Hospice Care provides skilled medical care and support for people living with a life limiting illness in an unhurried, safe and trusting environment and gives practical and emotional support to their loved ones and carers.
