The 3 most common principles forgotten by renovating home-owners

Renovating a property can be an intensive experience, and if you’re not careful, the expenses can ramp up more quickly than you may have expected. This is why it’s good to plan out all stages of this effort in advance, and of course, agree on that plan and the quoted price with your contractors before you sign any contracts.

Yet if renovating has started to feel like a chore, or you feel somewhat dismayed by the scope of the project, it’s good to bring things back to the drawing board and try to remember some of the common principles that caused you to start this plan in the first place.

In this post, we hope our advice will help you move forward and remember that renovating and remodeling your home should be fun – in the best possible way. We’ll also provide some suggestions that make this process easier to deal with; so a unified, well-thought-out result can be enjoyed by everyone who lives in your home for years to come.

Less is often more

It’s important to remember that less is often more when it comes to structuring the base of your renovations; because as long as the finish is applied properly and the fixtures are present, you can design and adorn this space as much as you deem necessary over time.

So – let’s say you’re changing a living room wall to feature brick slips. Will you need large acrylic signs, exposed light fixtures and more distinctive colour gradients than you know what to do with? Probably not. The more you can restrain yourself and opt for simple visual appeal and function first, such as making sure every brick slip is level and uniform, the more room you have to pivot and design as the project concludes.

Consider appliances & fixtures

It’s also good to consider how the renovation may provide the foundational staging for appliances and fixtures you deem to be the most suitable for your needs.

For instance, you may decide to knock through a wall to expand the open plan living space between your living and dining rooms. But could this also be a great opportunity to open up the original fireplace which had its chimney blocked by the previous owner, too? Or could opening up two bedroom spaces into one master bedroom now offer you the potential to implement an en-suite?

Remodelling is about the finer details, too

It’s important to remember that remodelling a home is often about the finer details, too; those details that actually redefine the space and make it yours. Don’t be afraid to have fun with the smaller considerations, like the means by which you’ll add drawer and cupboard handles between rooms to create a consistent theme.

Alternatively, the finer details could also inspire greater changes. If you prefer a top-basin toilet installation with a pull chain to keep the retro and rustic ambience in your home, then perhaps that can be a fun indulgence you pursue. Geeking out during your home renovation is always fun, and as you’re the one footing the bill, entirely justified.

With this advice, you’re certain to see the three most common principles forgotten by renovating home-owners.

Sharing your interior design work process among the audience is a great content idea for video marketing. It gives a positive impression and helps you look professional, knowledgeable and confident.

You can record discussions with the team and footage of bringing resources, tools and other things you use to complete your interior design project.

If you’ve worked in this industry for years, you may have noticed that many interior designers do this to build trust among their customers and increase brand authority.

Don’t think creating a service promo video is a tough task, as easy-to-use promo video maker tools are available online. You’ll feel at ease using these applications even if you don’t have professional video-making experience.

Post differentiator videos to hook new clients

Why should your client hire you for your interior design services? There are lots of interior designers and agencies offering the same services.

Hence, you need to share your USP, x-factor or differentiator videos to stand out from these.

These marketing videos give your prospects reasons to get your highly skilled services. For example, you can share some behind-the-scenes clips where you’re engaging with prospective customers to understand their needs. You can showcase that you’re passionate about your work and aren’t afraid to take on challenges.

Going live and talking with dream clients are also a great idea to hook the new audience. You’ll definitely gain some new leads and projects to work on if you have a strong portfolio.

Provide interior design footage at various levels

Updating your audience about projects’ various accomplishments is another way to hook them through service promo videos. You can also mention contact details here so the next leads can find you.

Sometimes your team may be willing to share beautiful design concepts or participate in discussions with you and other staff members. You could create a 3D walk-around and upload it to the website and social channels. It’s one of the best ways to produce unique content and publish it online.

This way, viewers can discover new design concepts and even small details that they can implement in their homes. Also, they can learn how you transform an idea into a real project.

You can create a compilation of testimonials from different clients using promo video-making tools. It’s another way you can benefit your interior design business to increase sales and profit.

Bust interior design myths and latest designs

Another great way to stand out from other interior designers and attract new leads is by busting interior design myths. You could advise the audience how to decorate their interiors using innovative approaches – busting design myths at the same time.

Additionally, you could create your interior design marketing videos on the subject of the best ways to organise a kitchen or how to decorate a bedroom for couples or kids. You could examine many different topics and start making stunning service promo videos for your audience.

Moreover, you could recommend to viewers how they can minimise home renovation costs and complete their renovation tasks in less time.

These marketing videos not only help your audience find answers to their design questions, but also help them find out about your services. So, if any prospective clients require interior design services, they may hire you without looking elsewhere.

Post design transformation case studies

Design transformation case studies illustrate how you helped your design client to solve their problem.

Here’s a scenario; let’s say your previous client obtained design services from another interior designer. They made many promises in their brief; however, when all was said and done, none of the previous design team’s attempts delivered the desired result. Ultimately, your client approaches you and shares their problem and asks your team to help. After considering the instructions provided by the client, your design team work tirelessly to produce an exceptional design project that finally pleased your client.

Home remodelling ideas that will make your house cooler

Home remodelling ideas that will make your house cooler

You love your house but it’s a bit of a nightmare place to live. The leaky roof is a constant annoyance, the mouldy bathroom is embarrassing and those draughty windows let in cold air at night. And the dated kitchen? Well, uh…yeah! You get it. Home renovating doesn’t have to be an expensive process. The home remodelling thoughts we’ve set out below don’t require any major structural changes or even external renovations. You can renovate your home entirely from the inside out with minimal time and cost! Read on for some great ideas for home remodelling that will make your house cooler.

Soundproof your rooms

If you live in an area with lots of noise pollution, you can drown out the sounds of traffic and sirens with wall soundproofing. If you live near a busy road, train station or airport, you probably know all about this problem. Soundproofing your rooms can help you get some peace and quiet, which you’ll definitely appreciate. This can be a really effective way to reduce noise pollution penetrating your home, and thereby improving the quality of your life and perhaps your sleep. You can choose from a range of products, including acoustic paint, soundproof curtains and acoustic wall panels. In addition, soundproofing your rooms is a great way to make your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter months.

Add awnings

Awnings are an excellent way to cool your house during the summer. They come in many different materials, colours and styles which makes them easy to integrate into any home. Choose from a range of different fabrics including cotton, polyester, acrylic and even bamboo. If you’re worried about your awning being too hot, you can always opt for a material that’s designed to repel the sun’s rays. Awnings are also incredibly easy to install and repair if necessary, which makes them an excellent investment. You can find affordable awnings at most home improvement stores.

Add new doors and windows

If your old doors and windows aren’t energy-efficient, they’re probably making your home significantly more expensive to heat or cool. There may be gaps and cracks that make it hard to reach and maintain the desired room temperature. You can improve the effectiveness of your doors and windows by swapping them for new, energy-efficient models. Replacement doors and windows are an excellent way to reduce your energy costs and make the temperature of your home more comfortable at the same time. Some doors and windows are manufactured with built-in UV protection and soundproofing, too, which makes them an even better investment.

Add a solar panel system

A solar panel system can add value to your home and, at the same time, you save money on your energy bills – which at the moment, every penny can help. They look awesome on your roof and come in many shapes and sizes, helping blend in with your property. If you’re worried about the installation process, don’t be. Installing a solar panel system isn’t as difficult as you may imagine.

A post shared by Interior Stylist (@hanbullivant)

Interior stylist, Hannah Bullivant, and her husband have achieved the most spectacular static caravan transformation. We first learned of her and her home project on the Guardian website.

You’d be hard pushed to come across a grottier caravan; it was covered in green algae on the outside and black mould on the inside. It was damp and dirty, the floor was rotten and the doors and windows were broken… but it only cost them a hundred and fifty quid! Despite all this, they bravely took the plunge to turn it into a comfortable family home.

Their ‘luxury lodge’ is now a thing of beauty – inside and out. The exterior has been clad with wood and one by one, room by room, the interior spaces have been renovated and improved on a limited budged – made easier with the help of kind friends, eBay and Facebook Marketplace.

Here’s Hannah’s own ‘before & after’ visual of their kitchen – isn’t the metamorphosis incredible‽
